We have tried many others from the Smart Keyboard Cover to Logitech to Zagg. Each one has strengths but I continue to go back to Brydge and right now all our iPads have Brydge keyboards.

I have owned and also beta tested a multitude of keyboards for my years of owning iPads. My first Brydge was for my iPad gen 5 after I got frustrated by a high-end keyboard failing on that iPad. So I bit the bullet and spent a comparatively high price to try the Brydge. And it turned out to be my favorite keyboard ever. I just purchased the new iPad Air 3 because I wanted to start using an app to try to go more paperless. And the 5th Gen iPad wouldn’t work well with capacitive styluses. So the older iPad went to my wife, along with the keyboard. And I bought the Brydge keyboard for the new iPad Air (plus iPad Pro 10.5”). It behaves just the same as my original Brydge, plus now the iPad can open to a full 180 degrees so both the screen and the keyboard can lay flat on a surface. This makes pen (Logitech Crayon) entry easier to use because I don’t need to detach the iPad from the keyboard in order to do manual entries. The keyboard costs a lot, but I finally realized that it is well worth it.

The keyboard is a bit heavy, but helps balancing adequately the iPad so it doesn't wobble of fall backwards. The keyboard is compact and takes some minutes to get used to the travel between keys, but the keys click travel is most satisfying. Except when you have to double press a key to produce a character on the screen. It happens seldomly but still is something. The backlit keys are really nice in dark environments, but took me a brief moment to find the correct button to turn it on... in the dark. Once you close the "lid" after a while the keyboard goes to sleep and it takes some time to get the keyboard connected again... sometimes i have to turn the bluetooth on again on the keyboard, or go to the iPads settings and pair the keyboard manually, now i have three Brydge keyboards on the bluetooth list.. i have to erase them (forget this device) manually. I have tried to align the corners and sides of the iPad to the keyboard and they are "almost" flush with each other, but after a life using apple products the minimal difference in alignment is noticeable. Also, my perception is that you could probably charge 10-15 bucks more and include the slimline protective case as as a combo option. It really is a pain to discover after the fact that there is the option, and have to pay almost the same cost of the case in shipping. And also please have them in the same colors of the iPad/keyboard, it doesn't make sense to have a black or red cover with the keyboard in a different color, that's the second thing that prevents me from buying one... the shipping cost and the color...

Thé Brydge 10.5 is a lovely companion for my iPad. It matches beautifully. I must say that the iPad + Brydge combined are rather heavier than I expected. Still, it looks great.

One of the reasons I like this keyboard over the apple is that I can change the keys to Dvorak layout. I’ve used Dvorak for years and it’s nearly impossible to buy a Dvorak keyboard. It took about 2 minutes!!
