Hello and thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We find that it is easier to pull up on the metal frame itself (as opposed to the fabric handle), as this gives an easier leverage. I have the ottoman bed myself, and there is a bit of a 'knack' to using it, and that once you're used to opening and closing it, it becomes easier. All the best, Sophia
