“Fantastic company from replying to questions to how fast and easy delivery is. Then the product I have some expensive chessboard compared to this product but non compare to how fun this board is from ai to learning it is on another level”
“I love the design and practicality of the chess board. Delivery was very quick! My only gripe is that as someone from the UK, i find it difficult trying to get the carry case as it doesnt appear as an option for me on the accessories list yey i get emails saying i can buy it?”
“I know this board was born 2 years ago. I did not buy it at first because the comments were mixed. I wait until it finally support chess.com online and I pulled the trigger.
Let's talk about the good things first.
My wife and two kids all of us were agreed that the board is beautiful with the colourful light on the board.
Second, the board is so responsive when playing online. unlike other electronic boards with some delay ; it doesn't put me at a disadvantage when playing rapid games.
Third, the chess pieces are of good quality. you know my kids always dropped the pieces and they are quite solid.
Of course I still hope Chessup could provide replacement order for the pieces whenever it broken.
Now comes to Cons.
First it mainly support online matches. I like to train some endgame position with the board.
However, I have to copy and paste the FEN one by one each time. So if I've got 20 positions for training you know I have to repeatedly copy & paste these FEN which is not convenient at all.
Second it doesn't support vs BOT/Computer at Chess.com / Lichess ; Why I say that because it's default engine is quite strong even when I set it to 100 ELO. My kids would like to play with the funny BOT on chess.com but it just doesn't support it. Not sure if it will be in the future.
Third, I hope it can extend its connectivity to computers one day. if it can support like Chessbase it will be great for analysis or some training.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the product and would highly recommended to any chess players who would like to play OTB at home.”
“I like the ChessUp board a lot and use it very often. Although it is plastic, it doesn't look cheap. The size is conveniently small and the pieces are nicely detailed. The touch response is fast and accurate. It feels great to play a game with this board, whether it is face-to-face, against the computer or online.
The main concerns are with the app. The Chess.com integration is in Beta, so I won't complain about the many bugs and missing features there. It's great it is being introduced.
The Lichess integration has a couple of bugs, unfortunately, but it is mostly playable. The main bug I encounter is when my opponent promotes a pawn the app doesn't know how to continue.
The matchmaking on ChessUp itself doesn't seem to work at all. I only see some days-old requests in the log but am unable to find any opponent. The app always buzzes a few times when starting, but there is no visual feedback as to why, which can be confusing.
I don't regret my purchase at all, but I hope the app sees many improvements soon.”
“ChessUp is a fantastic electronics chess board ! And the best is yet to come, it's only getting better and better overtime. The Bryght Labs team support is amazing. It may potentially be the best chess board to date. This is the chess board we all dreamed of. A dream came true !”
“ChessUp is a brilliant electronic chessboard concept. The idea of combining a built-in AI engine with the ability to play online greatly enhances the usability of the board. Also, the lighting up of the squares in different colours is a great learning tool for beginners and more experienced chess players as well. The lighting up of squares also greatly enhances the online experience - showing which piece to move and its destination. There are some issues with the online playability of the board, though. The app still has the feel of being a work in progress. For instance, while it generally works well with LiChess there are occasional drop-out issues (I have had to complete several games via the LiChess app as a result) and also, sometimes, a message comes up to say "the game has ended" but no explanation is provided - i.e. did I or my opponent time-out, did my opponent resign or simply leave the game, I just don't know. I have to double-check by opening the LiChess app. As for the Chess.com implementation. This is still in beta and has never worked for me. The board simply does not respond to moves - either with IOS or Android (I have both!). If the online aspect can be improved and become more reliable, I would give the board a resounding 5-star rating. The ability to play online chess with a physical board is, in my opinion, a very satisfactory experience and ChessUp has come closest to achieving this aim: I have electronic boards from other manufacturers but all have fallen short of expectations in one way or the other.”
