This is a fun activity in Tower Gateway, London

Discover the Japanese art of kintsugi at this London pottery class and create a beautiful ceramic piece to take home.

Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection. It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together with gold and embracing the cracks to produce a beautiful piece of art, showing how the obstacles that we overcome in life can become an important and powerful part of our identity.

In this kintsugi class, your experienced tutor will tell you all about the history and philosophy of kintsugi whilst taking you through the process of making your own kintsugi piece.

Kintsugi is a perfect solution for a mistakenly broken treasured item, but to practice this art form you'll learn how to safely break pottery to practice mending it in the kintsugi way, without overdoing the cracks.

The gold of kintsugi is what makes it so beautiful and in the next stage of your craft class, you'll learn to use a micro metal mix with epoxy resin to create your gold solution. You'll then use this solution to fix together your broken pottery pieces, creating a wonderful piece of perfectly imperfect art.

You'll finish this London kintsugi class with lots of new knowledge on kintsugi pottery and the ability to mend broken ceramic pieces. You'll also take away your own handmade piece of kintsugi art. Kintsugi is a therapeutic process and you'll feel a sense of calm and accomplishment as you finish this special workshop.

Your finished piece is only for display not for food use, microwaves, ovens or the dishwasher.

If you are having doubts about booking… DON’T, YOU WILL NOT REGRET booking this course! Brandon and Lee were the best teachers ever. Both were incredibly helpful and lead the class with both great direction and also humour. We had such an incredible time learning the art of Kintsugi today and also the history behind it. Both teachers cared about their craft and genuinely cared about us and what making sure we were happy with what we produced in the end. The instructions were easy to follow and I appreciated both the video and the physical demonstration which I felt made it so much easier to understand how to use the materials properly. I cannot thank Brandon and Lee enough for facilitating such a wonderful class and teaching us about a dying art, being encouraging and really engaging throughout. Thank you so much, Ellen and Aaron

Really fun class, Brandon and Lee were great instructors and also hilarious - if you are going to book I’d say wear a top you feel comfortable getting covered in gold dust.

Absolutely amazing from start to finish - a perfect balance of practical, social and historical/cultural context! Despite the fact that Kintsugi requires quite a lot of waiting around, Brandon guided us through the process with immecable timing, ensuring that we were engaged with anecdotes as we waited for our work to dry. As a teacher, Brandon was very kind, caring, gentle and comedic - I could not have asked for. better experience, thank you! I'm going to be back in the summer to bring my mum for her birthday, as this is something on her bucketlist =D

We just enjoyed a totally absorbing, fun and creative Kintsugi Class with Brendan and Lee. I can throughly recommend the class, which took place in a supercool venue. The 2h passed without us noticing the time. I enjoyed learning something new and this time we could take our beauuutiful creations even straight back home. Lee knows so much about the philosophy behind Kintsugi, he was able to answer every question from the crowd. I also loved the relaxed atmosphere, we had all the time in the world at the end of class to finish our art works. Brendan is also a skilled photographer who took lovely pics with our phones. Thank youuu:)))))!

Brandon and Lee are engaging and patient and made the class really fun and ensure everyone left with a piece of pottery they could be proud of. We came with our friends and can thoroughly recommend the class to everyone. Their principles are also very commendable. I would've given more than 5 stars if I could , I definitely recommend this to everyone. I can imagine this would be a great team building class too.
