This is a fun activity in Tower Gateway, London

Discover the Japanese art of kintsugi at this London pottery class and create a beautiful ceramic piece to take home.

Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection. It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together with gold and embracing the cracks to produce a beautiful piece of art, showing how the obstacles that we overcome in life can become an important and powerful part of our identity.

In this kintsugi class, your experienced tutor will tell you all about the history and philosophy of kintsugi whilst taking you through the process of making your own kintsugi piece.

Kintsugi is a perfect solution for a mistakenly broken treasured item, but to practice this art form you'll learn how to safely break pottery to practice mending it in the kintsugi way, without overdoing the cracks.

The gold of kintsugi is what makes it so beautiful and in the next stage of your craft class, you'll learn to use a micro metal mix with epoxy resin to create your gold solution. You'll then use this solution to fix together your broken pottery pieces, creating a wonderful piece of perfectly imperfect art.

You'll finish this London kintsugi class with lots of new knowledge on kintsugi pottery and the ability to mend broken ceramic pieces. You'll also take away your own handmade piece of kintsugi art. Kintsugi is a therapeutic process and you'll feel a sense of calm and accomplishment as you finish this special workshop.

Your finished piece is only for display not for food use, microwaves, ovens or the dishwasher.

Our teacher, Brendon was very well organised. He managed the 2 hours so well and gave attention to each student (large group of 20). His explations were easy to understand and l loved his sense of humour. The studio was fab with plenty of space

I had an amazing time! It was super chilled, relaxing class. Lee and Brandon were friendly and encouraging teachers, clearly passionate about their craft. I never thought I be able to create something like this. I'd definitely encourage people to try it out

The two teachers (the Lee brothers) are just the best and made the entire day informative but fun. Exploring the art of Kintsugi was so fascinating and we got to keep what we made as a momento for the day (our pots sit proudly on our shelf now).

Brandon and his brother were very nice teachers, cool and fun, with lots of tips and help when needed. They had it all extremely well set up and super organised for us in a lovely space and were very pedagogical too. They had lots of beautiful different bowls and plates to choose from for our Kinsugi . We all had a great afternoon, totally absorbed in the process, with a nice group and left happy with our beautiful ‘masterpieces’. Already recommended it to friend and family and even contemplating going again to perfect my skills and make another piece !!
