“This year I got a Total Left Knee replacement, turned 60, and hadn't really skied for two years due to the knee. Well, I celebrated my recovery with a new ski mountaineering setup so I could keep up with my 20 and 30 Something posse. And these new Wailers are sweet on the up track and down the couloirs and fields of pow... Sometimes you just have to splurge in this life and I'm happy I did.”
“I have been on the Wailer 99 Pures for the last two season. I am 5'10" 180 pounds and started out on the longer 184 cm I then switched to the short 176 cm. I don't think you can go wrong with either length. The 184 cm definitely had as much float as I would ever need for deep backcountry days while the 176 cm were the easy ski I have tried in bumps and on hard pack.
No matter what the length these skis can really do it all. They take a little getting used to if you have not skied a ski with heavy rocker. It is a bit more of a sliding turn, but the edge to edge quickness is incredible. In deep snow I found you can get over the tips and really drive them as if I was on a groomer without every worrying about going over the handle bars. The carbon makes them light enough to tour on and gives it a really lively pop underfoot.”
