“I am not sure how valuable this review will be as I purchased the KGE Bassoon Reed Gouged and Profiled as a project. I am Making Cane Reeds for another instrument. So please keep this in mind.
My first impression and observation was that it tends to split quite easily if any further profiling is required, especially during the tying on stage. The quality may have a lot to do with this or perhaps thickness and obviously the technique. The general profile was quite good but the thickness did tend to vary quite a bit towards the thin end IE, around the 20 thou mark. I did manage to produce a workable reed but a lot of waste, however, as said above, the aim was to produce Reeds for a completely different instrument so I can't really say how useful they would be for producing Reeds for the Bassoon. I will try a different type of Cane next time.”
