“Not concerned with the colors or styles, it is after all a grab bag. I received a Gaisgeach kilt and a Laoch kilt. My 2 kilts were delivered at very different times (over a week apart). The first kilt I received, the Loach kilt) though labeled Large-XL was at least the next size up. As grab bag kilts cannot be returned I modified it with leather strapping to fit me appropriately. I had initially assumed I had measured incorrectly (despite remeasurement after receiving the oversized kilt). However, when I received the second kilt it was sized exactly as I had expected. The first kilt was not sized properly. After modification and re-fitting it appeared to be about 3 inches larger than it should have been so it was either a XL or an XXL. Although it fits fine it still looks a bit off because of the extra fabric.
Quality wise the fabric seems durable and the stitches are secure. The leather strapping is thinner than I would like and the buckles feel cheap. The leather straps I replaced with are normal strap leather but almost twice as thick as the original ones. One of the first things I noticed was a giant label inside of the kilt that it is made in Pakistan. I don't see that made clear anywhere on the website and it definitely is something that may turn people off, Pakistan is not exactly known for high quality.
That being said would I be willing to purchase other kilts from DNKE? Yes, I would. The last time I looked into buying a kilt it would have run me $3-400. Though I could have in that case selected tartan colors appropriate to my familial line. But crazy pricy, especially if it is for anything other than formal. I assume if I ordered a kilt outside of a grab-bag and the size was incorrect I could send it back and get one that is sized properly (or maybe grab-bag kilts are where they put the errors it is possible neither kilt was as it should be). Would I buy a grab bag again? I think so. At half the price if I get it muddy or nasty or if I modify it severely it is no biggie. I do wish they made it clear that item sizes for grab bags may be incorrect or if they are not supposed to be incorrect to accept returns for their F-up. Too large I can work with, but I don't know how well it would work if it was as undersized.”
