Hello, I am sorry to hear you had issues with your install! From your description it sounds like some important steps were skipped, as the first step of the install process mentioned in the install guide is to dry fit the cover with no adhesive to ensure proper fit and to confirm that you have the underlying door surface clean enough for the covers to pop on without obstruction. Skipping this step can definitely add difficulty and frustration if your doors still have too much old adhesive and foam leftover from the OEM inserts, which is usually noticed during your dry fit.
