THE GOOD: Deako products provide a super easy way to add smart lighting to your new home. For most people that are comfortable using things like Alexa or Google Home or who are fine controlling their lights through ADT’s app (or similar) or Deako’s native app, they will probably be very satisfied with Deako.
THE POTENTIAL: For people that are less trusting of Amazon, Google, or who don’t wan’t to give control of their home to ADT (etc.), Deako may not be your cup of tea — yet. If you are looking to integrate with Apple Home or Home Assistant, things aren’t quite there however after talking with Derek from Deako yesterday evening, I believe that some really big things are coming for Deako and I am excited for their vision for Smart Home. If they can pull it off, I can say with a high degree of confidence that I will have a ton of Deako products in my home in the future.
THE LESS GOOD: To be blunt, my experience with Deako has been rocky. I loved the idea of Deako when I was introduced to the company when buying my home, and purchased a handful of products about six weeks ago. All of those products worked fine except two: a master and remote smart dimmer. I tried for hours to get the devices to link together before finally calling support. This is where my experience takes a nose dive. The front line support could not help me, and took my name and number. It took several days to be contacted (after I opened a ticket through their app), and several more days before we were able to troubleshoot. It was determined that the remote switch was bad and needed replaced. Later that evening, I had some misgivings on the platform and decided to return my order. That process took nearly three weeks before coming to any sort of resolution which was frustrating to say the least, however it is fully resolved now!
THE SOLUTION: Ultimately Derek reached out to me and we spoke very candidly about my experience with Deako. I truly believe that my situation is very unique, and most people probably have no issues. I was the perfect storm of bad experiences. I am really excited about what Deako is trying to do, and everything that I have purchased is working properly without issue.”
