The 'Clamshell' nickel plated, spring loaded, classic design tailpiece is often found on pre-war Gibson banjos. This tailpiece is also known as the 'Claw' tailpiece. This taipiece can be fitted to 5-string and 4-string banjos. On the internal bottom plate it has five 'fingers' that can be used with loop ended strings. It also has five 'holes' that can be used with ball ended strings.The bottom plate is also fitted with a knurled thumb screw making it fully adjustable for angle and height. It also has a spring loaded 'clamshell' top cover plate.
