I had gotten it this due to wanting to record lung sounds to include in my reports as well as wanting something more compact to carry in my pocket while on-duty (911 AEMT). This does exactly what I want it to, plus I can attach wired earbuds directly to the stethescope to listen through. Definitely recommend.

This review is based on the initial month of use of the Eko CORE 500 as a general practice/ER veterinarian. The stethoscope has some pros and cons, but overall it is a helpful piece of equipment. This is also acknowledging that your average animal is not going to be shaved, gel used, and very calm, thus one must still use the most powerful tool - your own brain/ears. PROS: 1) Very clear audio/amplification, just be careful not to crank the volume or you can get a super loud click that blocks other sounds. 2) Sturdy, quality tubing, design appears to have accounted for dings/knocks and I have little concern for mild wear and tear as long as the front screen is not damaged. 3) Comfortable Fit 4) Software easy to use as are the on-screen functions on the device 5) If you follow the directions for pets, it can sometimes confirm subtle murmurs in the software 6) The three filters are immensely helpful CONS: 1) Fur is a real handicap, as is shaking, heavy breathing etc... 2) The head is far too large for small pets and there is no pediatric bell 3) The software DOES miss punch-you-in-the-face loud murmurs fairly often - this ultimately cost one star, because those murmurs are clear as day, and this is not really acceptable given what this stethoscope is supposed to be able to achieve. 4) When I do not have wifi and cell service (which happens more than I like in this area), I might as well forget the software exists, even though it is bluetooth enabled I cannot get a reading without some kind of internet access, even one to save and review later. Otherwise, it records very accurately when you follow the manufacturer directions. 5) Warranty is too short in my opinion for the cost of the item, especially with electronics notoriously failing seemingly right after warranties expire Overall I am glad I purchased the Eko 500, I look forward to using it for many years.

I have mild bilateral sensorineural hearing loss with moderate bilateral tinnitus. The Eko CORE 500 removes all my worries about my missing any murmurs or bruits. When I'm not using the app, I would like for the screen on the stethoscope head to delay erasing the waveforms or data until I have had a chance to look at the screen (many times I am listening to heart and lung sounds under a shirt, so the active screen is not in my line of sight). Also considering a stiff/positive click thumb wheel/dial instead of buttons for selecting the different listening modes and for the volume control. Beautiful construction. Fun to use and for sharing data, in real time, with a patient or family.
