“We are so happy with Ello. My son is special needs and is now homeschool. When he was at school the teacher didn't help him with his reading. At one point we where told he was un teachable but now when his new box come in he is excited and so happy to learn and he can work the program better on the tablet then i can thank you”

She has even taken it to school to show her teachers and friends. We are excited to see the growth in my child not only in her reading but also in her confidence. “We have only been using Ello for 2 days so we still need to warm up to it. So far we are really not a fan of the app. It literally crashes right as we are about to finish a book so we need to reload the app and wait to swipe thru all the pages so we can complete the book. Each time you reload the app it takes a while to go thru all the loading process, selecting his profile, and starts your book over. The app is probably what we dislike the most and it needs some work. For the program I knew it would be a struggle since my toddler is 3. I dislike that his level was given by age not based on his reading level. There was no test for this. So we find our first set of books much lower than anticipated - we buy step readers level 2 and 3 and we received prereader. I also knew the AI program would not pick up understanding his voice since he is not super clear talking yet. That’s okay since I expected that. I wanted to try it out and see how we could make it work for us. Going over challenging words in the app has been nice. Also so far the program has worked in encouraging him to read for himself instead of always “mommy’s turn”. He likes collecting his stars when he reads it. So to make it work he reads and then I repeat what he says aloud for the AI to recognize and then he can collect his stars. He also likes hearing an elephant congratulating him more than mommy lol. Ello has worked getting him to want to read aloud instead of always wanting mommy to read to him. That was my goal! I also wish we got more than 5 book for one month. My son reads easily 5 books a day so this is going to be a looonnnngggg month with 5 books especially below level.”

Thank you for the note and honest feedback, Annie! We offer to email the teacher and ask some questions during onboarding that try to approximate the level, but it isn't always the easiest to gauge (especially if they are not in school yet). All our books start at Kindergarten level (not pre-reader) but it sounds like your little guy is ready for harder books. We would be very happy to switch those out for you and investigate what might be causing the crashes on your tablet. I will have someone from customer support reach out right away!
