My kid comes home from school and run straight for her Ella box! It’s easy to use, the books are great, the app fantastic! Thank you so much for this great product!

I got our first box about a week ago. My daughter has been happy to use and I love the system. I feel this will help her read proficiently in no time. I am going to add a subscription for my 3rd grader and hope the books will be challenging enough for him. Thanks!

We are only on our first box, but I am already seeing changes in my daughter's reading ability! She loves being able to work on it independently and I love knowing that if she gets stuck on a word she can ask Ello for help. She has mentioned several times that she likes the books that were sent to her and she is determined to work hard to read them all so that she can get a prize! I am looking forward to seeing her continue to progress with Ello's help!

We are on our first month of Ello. The novelty of the program has been enjoyable for our reader, but there are definitely some things that can be fixed. It will sometimes not register that my daughter has finished reading a page or it will choose words that my daughter read correctly and asks her to try those words again. She gets frustrated by these issues enough that she doesn’t want to use Ello independently, which really is the whole point of the program. I really like the idea of Ello, but for the price, I really hope the AI feature becomes stronger.

Thank you for the feedback, Kara! We are constantly working on improving our speech recognition. A few tips for speech recognition in case it helps: Speech recognition (as you might know from Alexa or Siri) isn't perfect. We walk a delicate balance between not wanting to be SO strict that a slight accent or difference in pronunciation results in Ello getting stuck or detecting an error, and also not wanting to be so lenient that it lets kids through with a ton of mistakes or doesn't correct a mistake. Kids are particularly sensitive to the first --no one likes to be told they are "wrong" when they aren't-- so we lean a bit more lenient. Ello is always there for kids (via the question mark) when they want help, and we never interrupt them during reading to correct an error. Teachers don't do this either. We wait until the end of the page and then have them go back if we think they missed a word. The bottom line is this: we think about the experience holistically. Ello is motivating support that will correct them on errors (although not all errors, by design), is always there to help if a child proactively asks for it, and motivates them to keep going! A few tips for speech recognition in case it helps: Ello can get stuck (though we don't get reports of it happening too often). Here are some things that might help or explain: any damage to the microphone internally, background noise, or clarity of the speaker (yelling actually makes it worse!). Here are some things you can do: 1). Skip the page if it is read (push the arrow forward) 2). Hit the question mark to see where Ello is stuck 3). Keep reading fluidly at least 5 or 6 words. Reading one word at a time can actually make it worse. When getting help on a single word (when Ello has the flashlight up), give a few seconds before repeating it again. Ello can sometimes take a second to process single words. Let me know if any of this helps

My daughter just received her first Ello box this weekend. When she got home this evening I showed her the books and the app. She was so excited and wanted to read all five books. She only read three books, but has already earned enough stars to select a gift for next months box. I think some suggestions would be offering more books per box, or maybe a more frequent service. I love that the books that were sent have repetition. So if she doesn’t know a word, and Ello helps her with the word, it is sure to pop up again. For example, the high frequency word “have”. I also ordered a subscription for my fourth grader who isnt a huge fan of reading. Hoping it will build his confidence a bit.

My 5 year old struggled and it was always a hard time getting her to read. She never wanted to. The first night we tried ello she absolutely loved it! She read 3 of the books that first night! I was really impressed with her desire to read. Overall it seems like a great program. I’m sad it’s only 5 books a month.

We just got Ello in the mail two days ago, and my daughter (who has mild dyslexia and has struggled so much to learn to read) won’t stop asking to read to her new little elephant friend. She already 2 books in and gaining confidence, all while planning her re-reads to earn more stars. THANK YOU.

We have had the books for 2 days and my son who struggles to read with his dyslexia loves the program. He likes the words being sounded out to him by someone other than me. And he is excited everytime the star shows up with points for each page. He is now asking to read the books instead of fighting me to read. Love this and very thankful to have found this program since we had tried several others including ABC mouse and hooked on phonics
