My daughter did not seem to interested at the begging but once she read with little less help she got excited. The issue we had was ello would not recognize and take long to capture her reading. It frustrates her she keeps screaming what she reads overs and overs. Also another issue is sometimes it would over here what she was saying and go to the next page and she wasn’t done yet. It is a new tablet. We will try it one more month hopefully the app will work better and she can be able to read better.

Thank you for the review, Veronica! Speech recognition (as you might know from Alexa or Siri) isn't perfect. We walk a delicate balance between not wanting to be SO strict that a slight accent or difference in pronunciation results in Ello getting stuck or detecting an error, and also not wanting to be so lenient that it lets kids through with a ton of mistakes or doesn't correct a mistake. Kids are particularly sensitive to the first --no one likes to be told they are "wrong" when they aren't-- so we lean a bit more lenient. Ello is always there for kids (via the question mark) when they want help, and we never interrupt them during reading to correct an error. Teachers don't do this either. We wait until the end of the page and then have them go back if we think they missed a word. The bottom line is this: we think about the experience holistically. Ello is motivating support that will correct them on errors (although not all errors, by design), is always there to help if a child proactively asks for it, and motivates them to keep going! A few tips for speech recognition in case it helps: Ello can get stuck (though we don't get reports of it happening too often). Here are some things that might help or explain: any damage to the microphone internally, background noise, or clarity of the speaker (yelling actually makes it worse!). Here are some things you can do: 1). Skip the page if it is read (push the arrow forward) 2). Hit the question mark to see where Ello is stuck 3). Keep reading fluidly at least 5 or 6 words. Reading one word at a time can actually make it worse. When getting help on a single word (when Ello has the flashlight up), give a few seconds before repeating it again. Ello can sometimes take a second to process single words. Let me know if any of this helps!

I couldn’t get her to stop reading. She read 3 books in the first day. I even started to hear her read with expression/ emotion. So far it’s a success and we will continue on this journey with her and Ello. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart as a parent.

The software is great, my daughter tried to engage and all. The only issue being that, when my daughter needs help with a word, it sometimes begins separating and then it skips all the way. So, the word was never pronounced and it never allowed her to repeat before continuing. Other than, she’s enjoying the points and the practice.

Hi Janeth! So sorry about the issue you are experiencing. Can you try updating your device and the app and see if that fixes the issue? If not, we can help further on our support line: support@helloello.com. If you can send a video to the support team of what is happening, we can troubleshoot if the issue persists! Happy reading!

My daughter has an IEP for reading and communication she has been in speech therapy since she was 3, the only problem we have had with this is it sometimes not hearing her and it sometimes thinks she says the wrong word but that was expected with her being in speech therapy other than that she really loves reading the books that have been sent and loves that she can earn a prize if she reads enough

Ello is changing the game! My son was not interested in reading and now looks forward to reading with Ello. He gets to click the stars, use the question mark if he doesn’t understand a word, and most importantly he “wants” to pick up the books. Thankful for this program!

We’ve gotten our first month of ello and my daughter loves reading with it. I like the books chosen and it is helping her to speak clearly reading aloud and to read each word instead of guessing. My only complaint would be the little confetti paper put in the box.

My daughter has really enjoyed her first box - which just came yesterday! I would love to have the option of receiving a new box once you are finished with the current box. There are a couple books I think she might like to read longer, but at her level, she will probably be ready for another set of books after the end of the first or second week. I wish I could return these books as soon as we are done and not wait another 2-3 weeks to receive another set of books. I feel like her momentum is growing and once we return and wait for new, some of that momentum will be lost. She has looked so excited to finish a book “all on her own” even if she needed to ask the app for help on a word or two. It’s hard to stop the background noise at home and the app gives her credit for words that are wrong alot.

I am so glad to hear she is enjoying it! We are currently working on business models that will allow for access to additional books. We hope to have these options ready by September. Thank you for the feedback!
