“My son is 8 and a reluctant reader in second grade. As soon as his first box arrived, he was interested. After he read the first book, he was hooked and asking to read more books before school and first thing after school (the time usually highly coveted for video games). He even asked me to write a letter to send to his teacher about how “cool Ello is!””

“Up until kindergarten, books and reading were my son’s absolute favorite activity. By the time we got to winter break, he was throwing epic tantrums any time we asked him to read, work on sight words, or even just sit for storytime. It was so painful to watch his love for stories die. I began researching the difference between balanced literacy and science based reading and realized that my child’s school was not teaching him to read or to love reading. Today, we received our first Ello box and my son is so excited that he has voluntarily read 4 books while I made dinner and supervised, and then spent 30 minutes happily doing sight words for school! He is very motivated by the stars in the app and sticker chart, and can’t wait for his first prize. The app is so well made that it hears him even when he tries to trick it by whispering! He loves Ello the elephant and has no issue asking him for help! While the price is a littler higher than other programs we have explored, it is still far less than a tutor.”

“The app is going well with my daughter, but it does get frozen/stuck sometimes on words where she’s said it a few times but it didn’t move forward. Otherwise going well.”

“I really love hello Ello. It builds confidence in my daughters reading aloud. She’s five and she’s gaining a really good flow and personality when she reads. Also if she gets stuck ello is there to help I always listen in but Ello seems to be doing her job. Another thing is, I love the extra videos after the book is finished to continue learning. So far I’m really impressed.”

“My daughter was so excited to start reading the books that came in the package. She read all 5 books in the same day! The only downside is she has a speech delay so some words sound a little bit off and the app didn’t pick up on that so I had to help her so she could keep moving on. But other then that she loved being able to unlock videos to watch after she read, put stickers on the piece of paper after she finished and it made her happy she got to pick a prize in her next month box.”

“Having struggled with fluency and just the willingness to want to read, my child now comes in everyday and gets excited about reading. The books that are sent also meet his accelerated reader points and he is doing excellent on his test!”

“My son just started using Ello and I love how I can see his confidence in asking for help on certain words he’s having trouble with. My only issue is that he does speak a little on the lower side so the app doesn’t always hear him read certain words and he would begin yelling a bit to get to turn the page, also when ello thinks he might not have pronounced the word properly after reading it will go back and try to help teach my son the words but he’s learned to just skip the word to go to the next page I wish it had the option to just say the word in order to skip it instead of just the skip button, in turn forcing him to recite the word instead of skipping it. It’s a great program and I love hearing my son read.”
