“I used to order the standard group gasket for my Nuova Simonelli Appia, and I found the replacement silicone gasket has lasted twice as long already, and has shown no signs of being ready to give up. It's still pliable, and still requires only the gentlest of pressure to lock in a NS portafilter.
NS portafilters, however, become weak if you cut the bottoms out of them, and bend , and break at the small cross-section that is left once you remove the cantilever that supports a full PF. I use PF's from my old Astoria Argenta, which have the same lug pattern and are beefier once cut bottomless. The issue is that the luggs are a bit less thick than those of the NS, so the 9mm will let me use them without having to lock them all the way to the right.
I cannot suggest strongly enough that you try the silicone replacement for whichever machine you own.”
