“This thing is awesome! My only recommendation would be to pick up a couple of extra tubes when you buy your board and possibly some tire tube slime. Not really evolves fault, just been getting thorns in my tubes from riding around. Overall very satisfied!”
“Purchased the Evolve GTR carbon as it looked like fantastic fun to ride. Absolutely no skate boarding experience at all and I have found the learning experience so easy and intuitive. After watching all the clips from Evolve I went with the Carbon as I’m a tall and heavier rider. Roughly 105kg and 6’8”. The clips help explain exercises to do to assist in riding the board which help a lot. Maintaining good trigger control and a little power in the turns really assists in your over all balance. I couldn’t be happier with purchasing this board and will looking forward to any new models that come out in the future. If you are thinking about one and not sure, get it.”
“I am 53 and was very unfit. I did not have another walk left in me after lockdown. Did not want a bike. I wanted something to get me excited. This has done the trick very well. It was not hard to get into the swing of it at all. First day it arrived, I went out and although, I was no expert was able to ride on a variety of terrain. After a few sessions it all clicked and I was able to ride much better. I have not stopped riding since then and go out at least once a day. Over the last few weeks, I have learned what kind of riding I like. It's certainly not about going fast. That gets boring quite quickly, but having the power that these boards deliver is very useful especially off road. I live just off Wimbledon common and that is like having a giant ski piste on my doorstep. On the common it's like I am snowboarding. Lately I have enjoyed cruising along the river from Putney. The smooth paved surfaces and urban infrastructure make it feel more like Skateboarding. The AT wheels are great and really easy to ride with in both contexts. They do soak up just about anything. When the weather is fine, there is a great way to just get out and explore London and get some sun.
In the run up to purchase, all of the marketing fuss about how good the bamboo board is for carving gives the impression that the carbon is somehow not. This is not the case at all. Its great and I spend loads of time just noodling around carving at low speeds. I thought I would prefer the trucks tight but actually quite the opposite. I have it as loose as possible. Two threads on the lower and about three threads on the upper seems to work well for me.
I have had a couple of tumbles, but no drama. Always wear the full protective gear when learning. I feel comfortable for short trips such as to the shops to not wear elbow and knee pads, but if I go for a ride and want to push it a little then its definitely better with all the gear.
I feel so much better physically. This is like a kind of Tai Chi for petrol heads. My core strength has improved massively. I stand better and move better. It's also way less boring than many forms of exercise.
People react well to these boards. I think the skateboards have a completely different vibe to the scooters. I have met loads of people who want to know about the board.
I had only one issue where one of the motors seemed to be going off power, but I quickly realised this was due to my belt tensioning skills. I think it was overheating due to belt slippage. This only occurred twice before I worked it out and it was not particularly obvious. Oh and yes, the charger port and cover is a bit whack and often pops open. Minor issue in practice though.
Even though this was a pretty expensive purchase, it is well worth it and I am getting ready to get another so I can have my son join me on rides. He loves it too.
The build quality is great. Very nicely made. As you get deeper into the subject there are alternative options including self build. I am glad I started with an Evolve board though. The AT setup is an ideal starting point. I am curious about experiencing the street setup but I think another AT board will come first as going on rides with my son is way more interesting to me right now. Maybe a Bamboo because he is much lighter than I am. The bamboo has lots of old school charm especially in street setup, but the Carbon is so solid. Tough choice.”
“This board is excellent–it's super responsive, quick and eats potholes for breakfast. Distance is also great for commuting to work (with a free skate tacked on each way). Very happy with my purchase and will probably try a conversion kit down the line once I'm comfortable riding AT.”
“I make minimum wage and had to sacrifice about a 150% of a paycheck and go through poverty-plus™️ for a little bit, but when i’m jammin around on this thing and droppin panties from the girls that can’t ride their long boards to save their lives, it makes it a zero-regret decision. A bit heavier than I expected but that just means I need to get my hormones checked and maybe go work out more.”
“This board is great, responsive, and really reliable. Everything about this board is exactly what it says on the description. The only downfall is the battery. I don't know what the hype is about the Samsung battery or whatever but this thing drops off like coming off a cliff. First 10 minutes is exhilarating fast Fun. I have the all-terrain wheels and I only Ride On Pavement which is smooth. I am limited to 18 miles per hour. After 70% battery I can no longer go 21 miles an hour. I almost get a full hour before my battery gets to 5%. The battery is the Achilles heel for this board.”
Thanks for the review! We are sorry to hear that the GTR just missed the mark for you! If you are looking for that next level experience I recommend checking out our new Hadean Model. The power it is capable of checks the rest of those boxes you mentioned!
