See inside and watch music in the making—music boxes are a fascination at any age. Holding the knob and turning the crank helps children develop the pincer grip, and refines small motor movement. The clear acrylic case covers all the moving parts of the instrument, except the handle. We've seen many variations on this design, and this is our favorite. 3¼"" x 2"" 1¼"" high. Base colors may vary. Please note: These are not ""wind-up"" music boxes which are wound and then listened to. The music only plays when the handle of the music box is turned. The music tempo will vary with the speed of which the handle is cranked. We have seasonal tunes available here.

Assists with behavioral learning as the child masters the turning of the crank. The music is light and lovely and a good reinforcement for the child as they work to refine their small motor movement. My two year old was fascinated but a bit frustrated that the knob moves independently from the crank. Therefore, she can spin the knob without moving the crank. It took a few times before she was able to master how to move the crank without only spinning the knob.

I bought two different songs and my children love them. I have a 2.5 and 4.5 year old and both can use the crank and play the song all by themselves. The older child likes to sing to the music or have Mommy and Daddy sing while she cranks. They seem very durable and I expect that they will last for quite some time. I want all the songs now!

This is a very simple toy, but both of my kids were enchanted with watching how the music boxes worked. My 7 year old absolutely loved it; it was one of her favorite gifts. My three year old enjoyed it too.

Great teaching toy. The moving parts are visible and the children can learn how it works.

We have an assortment of music boxes from several manufacturers, and the ones from Small Hands aren't holding up like the others. Specifically, our music boxes from Small Hands use plastic braces to hold the crank arm down to maintain contact with gears. One drop has disloged the far brace. I noticed the other manufacturers use metal braces that are most likely soldered down.

I purchased two of these for an eight-year-old girl and she was delighted. She loved seeing the internal mechanisms at work. My seven-year-old son was equally charmed by these sweet little music boxes, and exclaimed that we should "get some of these for us too!" What he doesn't realize is that I ordered one for his upcoming birthday and squirreled it away. :-) I may make these a birthday gift for all my nieces and nephews!

I was looking for a small music box for my granddaughter to play with. These are perfect for her. I just wish they came with more tunes. There are many other tunes online, but very few come in cases.

We had another one of these that broke after being dropped a short distance, so I can't say I'm impressed with the quality, but maybe that was just a fluke thing. However, the toy is so fun and interesting that I wanted to buy another; I love that you can watch the moving parts. It's a little challenging for my 2yo to figure out how to turn it, but it's interesting enough that she keeps trying.
