My 41/2 year old received this as a present. We've enjoyed using it together, but it's definitely something which requires supervision. I have seen his dexterity improve just over the few days we've been weaving on it. He is also VERY proud of the finished product. If you are willing to put in time supervising (and super patient) then it's a great thing for a 4 1/2 year old. If you are looking for an independent activity ( or are not particularly crafty) then you probably want to save it for am older child.

Purchased for my 7 year old. She needed some assistance in the beginning, but was able to do most of it on her own. She loved it!
