I bought this as a hands-on activity for homeschooling my preschooler. He loves to use it. At 3 1/2 he's not interested in the pattern cards, yet, but enjoys setting up the dowels and threading the beads. The different shapes and colors are great for sorting activities such as "Let's do all the greens" or "Let's do all the squares." As other reviews have stated, the pattern pictures are somewhat confusing, but I think I have it figured out.

I was disappointed in that the colors of the matching beads were not consistent. The blue was really off and didn't match the sticks at all. As a Montessori teacher, I wished the number of beads would have equalled a full range of sticks. We don't like things to not stretch far enough or come out extra but most people probably wouldn't care about that. A five year old had great fun playing with the game.

My 3-year old son loves the placing of the beads, but it is really hard to understand what shape goes with the pattern, because the beads are different sizes than the pattern. I had to show him which bead goes with which picture, because the towers end up being different sizes than the patterns behind them.

I had high expectations for this one but I am still waiting for my 4 yr old to embrace this one for its intent. She prefers to pretend that the sticks and beads are for a Smores camping experience with each color bead representing each food item. Although, I am still pleased that she does enjoy playing with it.

My son played with this daily when we first got it. It no longer comes out daily but he always enjoys playing with it. My only complaint is that the cube and the cylinder pictures look confusingly similar to the both of us.

Bought this for my 3 year old grandson. He loves it. It's something he likes to work on independently but also with an adult.

My three year old son loves this. He's been playing with it for about a year now. It's great because it can entertain kids of different ages--should be around for a long time at our house. LIttle ones just like popping the beads on the dowels, while older ones can sort by color or shape, or they can try to follow the patterns on the boards provided. My son has recently started to try the patterns. So far the paint has held up well. The storage box is really nice, too, with a plastic cover that slides on.
