I know nothing about woodworking but have always wanted to learn and my 7-year-old son loves building and designing, so I got this book along with some of the tools for us to learn together. I couldn't be more pleased! The book is very clear, pays attention to setting up a safe environment and learning the fundamentals, and the projects look like a lot of fun. The author's tone is upbeat and reassuring. He has lots of experience woodworking with kids and does a good job of pointing out where things can go wrong and how to present new skills so that kids will catch on quickly.

An amazing book that far exceeded my expectations. There are many feasible projects for young children. Better yet, there is lots of great advice on how to make woodworking fun and safe for young children. sometimes the advice is counterintuitive, e.g., the lightest hammer is not the best for young children because they don't have enough strength to hammer an object and they need the weight of a heavier hammer to help drive nails.

My husband and I built a wood-working bench for my 5 year old for Christmas. We ordered this book to help us with ideas of what to build. This book is full of great ideas. Here is the one we like so far . . . take a 2 x 4 and draw your child's name on it, then he/she can take a hammer and nail all along their name! It has ideas for a wide range of ages, too. So we look forward to using it for years to come.
