“Don't expect a strong smell of patchouli, but it leaves your skin delicately scented and feeling silky soft. I think it will be lovely to hand wash clothes in, and am going to try washing my hair with it too.”

“The soap had a strange toxic smell which didn't in the slightest resemble patchouli. Also when trying to give requested ratings for quality of fragrance and product value,although I wanted to give the lowest value for both,the page automatically gave a value of 3 out of 5 and couldn't be changed ! Very disappointed.”

“Whilst it is good value for money in terms of quantity, I have reservations about its application. When applied to the skin or hair the soap has a sticky consistency. It does not flow over the skin or through my hair as smoothly as more commercial shower gels. It lathers ok and the fragrance is what I would expect but it does not have the unctuous flow I want. My comparison is Roger&Gallet patchouli shower gel for men which I have used for years since living in France. I can no longer access it; probably a Brexit thing, hence my search for an alternative. I am not rubbishing this brand but it does not have quite the luxury edge to it that I have been used to.”

Hi Phil Thanks for your review. These Marseille Liquid Soaps will not perform like commercial shower gels as they are formulated without sulphates, PEG's and other synthetic additives that are included in mass market products to provide lather, softness, thickness, smoothness, preservatives and dilution to name a few. The products we source and import are as natural as possible and we don't buy anything containing sulphates and other toxic and synthetic ingredients. This is why they last longer and are more economical than most high street products. They are also made by hand in small batches so there will be less uniformity than readily available alternatives. Yes, some include the odd stabeliser and 'parfum' and colour, all are made with minimal ingredients from natural origin. If we can help further then do come back to us. FS x

“Made the bath water milky, which was plesant, I couldn't detect any scent of patchouli so asked a friend and husband who both thought the same.”

HI Lizzie, Thanks for your feedback. We are please to read you are enjoying the formulation. The fragrance in this natural liquid soap is on the softer side, which many of our customers love. The most intense Patchouli we sell is the Alpine Goat's Bar https://www.frenchsoaps.co.uk/products/sweet-almond-oil-patchoulli-organic-alpine-goats-mill-100g. This is very unusual as it is made with Pure Patchouli Essential Oil, not 'parfum', so is strong, bold and pure. Again, some of our customers adore this whilst others find it too extreme.
