“It's a new personal goal of mine to say, "Hey, I have a pair of socks for this!" Maybe it was just me finding the bright side in an otherwise crappy situation (I'm a food service employee, and the COVID pandemic sent the restaurant chain that I work for in to a frenzy). Though I'm greatful I didn't lose my job through these past 15 months or so, working through them has been an experience that I could have gone without. Luckily, I have great co-workers; and even though our corporate offices kept throwing discounts out like candy that sent all of our restaurants into madness, we stuck together. We celebrated graduations for our crew members (I still have yet to buy graduation socks), birthdays for the kids of our employees who couldn't have a normal birthday party (I also don't have birthday socks, but I think I have cake/cupcake socks). In the middle of all of this, I managed to tear my meniscus playing hockey with my younger siblings (I do have hockey socks!) Good timing right? When I started physical therapy (pre-surgery) without even thinking about it, I wore a pair of what I have deemed my "fun socks." The physical therapist complimented them, and it made me smile. Even though the circumstances, that was one of the first genuine smiles I had through this whole thing. So naturally, I started wearing a different pair of my fun socks to every physical therapy appointment, orthopedic appointment, work day, etc. It made me feel better, and it made people smile.
