“Does exactly what it's designed to do.. the only things missing is a small mounting ashy so that I can stick it to a small area on the dash of my Lexus.. I used the mounting from my previous phone mount a small amount of material in the ball socket to make it fit .. works a treat and a really short USB to USB-C cable ( 10cm long) so I dont have cables everywhere.. apart from those minor issues.. it's great and exactly what I wanted.. definately recommended.”
“Nice form and clear display ; but I am struggling trying to connect to my Note8 phone. I got it to display right with some apps but even when it connect it disconnect in about 5 minutes!! needs more work I guess.”
“Pros: In general, my main purpose from the device is working perfectly. Easy to and fast to connect the phone, Display very good night and day. (I use it only for navigations with Waze)
Cons: The mount become loosely and cannot be use, for my car it's also to high. Solution is to stick the unit straight to the dash with a sticky pad, much better for me, and also looks better.
With iPhone x , cannot stream only the video, so if i stream music via bluetooth and use it, the music goes to the unit.”
“I am a customer of Kick Starter and received "Hudly Wireress" and "OBD 2 module" on June 7.
I will review the impressions you used.
【Purpose of purchase】
I want to project vehicle information and grasp it while driving.
Gear position, speed, RPM etc.
【problem】
1. The AC adapter was broken.
Replacement items arrived in about a month.
[Feeling of use]
A good example
1. It was surprisingly beautiful and shuddered honestly when I saw the banner display at startup!
I want improvement
1. The illuminance sensor is too sensitive.
Every time it passes under the streetlight during nighttime the sensor responds sensitively and the screen gets brighter, the eyes get tired repeatedly, bright and dark.
2. The luminance is initialized
It is very troublesome to set the luminance every time the engine is operated without holding the value used last time.
3. It takes time to start up
It takes time to start the engine and use it, it gets irritated (3 to 5 minutes)
4. The display becomes thinner
When the main body temperature rises, the display becomes extremely thin and it becomes difficult to see suddenly.
5. Mirror
When the display section looks from the exterior of the car, it looks like a mirror, it reflects the sunlight and becomes a nuisance by reflecting the light in front of the vehicle and the surroundings.
6. The quality of the Hadley app is bad and it can not be used.
We are using paid versions of competitors' software.
7. Scratches like scratches on display
Due to the temperature difference of day and night in the summer, fine cracks will enter the coating on the display surface, and it will be like an abrasion.
【Review】
The idea of the product is very good, I will not forget the impression when I started using it. However, doubt remains in doubt. In the use of about two months, cracks such as scratches cracked in the display surface, which is the main part.
Of course, there is a difference in temperature between day and night in summer and winter, and it will not detach from the car every time due to the characteristics of the product. In other words, I think that the durability as an in-vehicle device is too low, and this price will be high although it can be used only for one season.
Also, since the startup of the device is slow, I will endure using it, but I do not think it will be used any longer. It's a shame.
Ideas and inspirational impression deserve five stars, but quality and usability are two stars and it is evaluated as a three star as an average value.
Finally, I thank Corbin and Hudly Staff who seriously responded to the trouble.”
“About the firmware update process from 7.7.7 to 7.9.7. Another user described it as "cluncky". Well I agree. I don't have a 12 V powersupply with USB mini connector in my house. So I have to park my car in a spot where the Hudly can connect to my office WIFI network. hhmmm on the lawn.
the fact that you have to push the button on the dongle means you have to remove the Hudly from the mount.
The warning and other information are in too small lettertype and in red. You don't notice it and you can't read it. The information is superposed on the splash screen so not easy to read.
The warning during the update process is in such a small lettertype that you need a magnifying glass to read it.
This process needs a lot of improvement.”
“Hi,
I received my Hudly a couple of months ago and I gave it a good test. Therefore you will find an elaborate review with many points of criticism. My hope is that you can improve on these point because in the basics it is a nice piece of equipment.
1) Homecoming
a. I received the package but I was annoyed that I had to pay some $80,- of import taxes and administrational fee. In my opinion you should warn foreign buyers that they have to pay this. Altogether this is becoming a very expensive toy
b. What a nice box. Sturdy and well protective. You might consider to replace the plastic inlay with a cardboard one for environmental reasons.
c. The OBD which I ordered with the Hudly was not in the box, actually, I still have not received it yet.
2) Mechanical characteristics
a. I had my doubts about the “glue” of the mount, but to my surprise the mount sticked very well to the dashboard of my Volvo S60.
b. The method of connecting the Hudly to the mount is not very user friendly. Here in the Netherlands it is not advisable to leave expensive equipment in full sight in your car and mounting and dismounting the Hudly daily on the bracket is not fun. It requires force and you have to remember if dismounting is shifting left or right.
My suggestion is to use a magnetic mount between bracket and Hudly.
c. After a week of using the Hudly the bracket went lame. See video in the mail. I could not use the Hudly anymore because it turned and swivelled all over the place.
d. I took the mount off the dashboard and started to investigate. Well, the ball bearing in the mount between the foot and the cradle was completely shattered/crushed.
e. With the remainder of the mount and parts which I had laying around from old carphones I created a contraption to mount the Hudly in the car.
3) Electrical
a. I was shocked when I found out that you use a USB mini connector to supply 12 Volts to the Hudly. If I use your cable to supply power to my Garmin Nuvi with USB mini connector I will have a HUGE problem. Never ever do this. USB connections are always 5V, use a normal round connector instead.
4) Connection with iPhone 6
a. It takes a long time for the Hudly software to start up. My car disconnects power every time I start the car, so even at a short stop to change drivers you have to wait until the Hudly wakes up again.
b. The Wifi connection is reestablished automatically but the display on second screen must be set in the iphone every time again.
c. I hoped that I could switch off the iPhone after the Hudly was set up, but that was a mistake. I need to keep the iPhone screen active AND I have to make sure that the iPhone keeps the correct orientation. Well that is difficult because I removed the mount for the iPhone. I can’t put the phone somewhere on the dash or in the seat next to me, because that disturbs the orientation.
d. Because I have to keep the phone alive it consumes MUCH power and it gets VERY hot. On long trips I have to put the phone in a ventilation opening and forcibly cool it. That is not good. Eventually this heat will kill my iPhone.
5) Usage
a. My first impression was that it was not adding much, but after a few months using it, also on long stretches, with Sygic, I have to admit that looking to the Hudly on the dashboard is more convenient than looking down to my iPhone.
b. But it is not a real Head Up Display. Ta be a real HUD it should display the information on the windscreen right in front of you.
c. When the sun is low on the horizon and shines directly on the outside of the mirror it is not readable anymore.
d. The sound is not loud enough. Even on a relatively silent car like my Volvo sometimes the max volume was not loud enough to understand the directions.
e. And then the illumination level and its automatically adjustment. Picture yourself in a long tunnel with a light very 50 of 100 meters. Or in the night on a sparsely illuminated highway.
The Hudly turns down the illumination level in steps when it is dark and turns it up the moment it sees a streetlight. This is enormously annoying.
My advice is to change the illumination level smoothly and calculate the environmental illumination as the mean level of the past X seconds”
“It works ok, I think it has some great features and possibilities, but the execution is lacking in a lot of spots.
Pros: Its a HUD it puts the information where it is safer and easier to see, it has a great viewing angle.
Cons: There is a lot of functionality and features that just make it clunky or a pain to use. The brightness adjustment, there is no delay on the adjustment, so if you go under an overpass for 1 second it dips dark and then flashes bright, same if you drive through a patch of shade.
It should have a slight delay on the dim function to make sure it is actually staying dim. The mount, my first one broke day one, they sent a new one relatively quickly, but its just not great for positioning in my car. The speakers, why bother the max volume is a joke, I have to run it thru my aux port to hear anything, and the Hudly gets confused sometimes if I also have bluetooth enable and it then doens't want to screen mirror because my bluetooth source confuses the outputs. Lastly for me it is the start up and connection time and lack of quick start that really get me, it takes a long time for the unit to boot, it doesn't always auto connect, and sometimes it takes a lot of time, especially when my home wifi is still close to my phone and hudly, then trying to get it to move over takes time, also when I stop for gas getting it reconnected sometimes just doesn't work well, I have to wait to long to get it to pair, when I just want to get on the road again.
I hope later development of the firmware fixes some of these large issues, and maybe new versions puts speakers that actually produce volume or make it easier to integrate into the audio.”
“When I got my Hudly, I was super excited about getting it. There is only one problem. The mount that It came with does not hold at all. Its a great product for what it does however I feel that its a highly priced heads-up display. I cannot use it until I get a replacement or figure out a way to fix it myself. I would like to get a replacement but we'll see.”
