Greets, This is a rider to my previous dissertation. Modern watches have alarms that are virtually inaudible on the beach (surf, swash, shingle etc.) A compact sports timer, designed for say boxing training may be clipped alongside the battery pack, behind the left ear. Mine is set for 12 1/2 mins to allow a bait to wash out, with a further 2 1/2 mins for reeling in, swapping of pre-baited traces and recasting. Most of our target species hunt by scent. A fresh bait every 15mins can be the difference between just going fishing and bringing home a brace of cod.

Greets, This lamp needed to be highly water resistant without being a high tech smart unit. To be a tool for night Beach Fishing with enough light to Gralloch a deer as well. I was aware of the Petzl Duo Led 5, it's water resistant virtues and it's shortcomings. I concurrently ordered 3rd party upgrades for the actual lights. The Duo Led 5 is thus ideal. The original Petzl head torch (I had one stolen) was an excellent switched focusing spot. Nevertheless, it became the ubiquitous outdoor activity head torch. The main in the Duo is not as good as the original, shewing little sign of 30 years progress. I now have the Fleabi MES LED conversion. This is a non focusing flood. A little broad for beach use (intended for cavers) but nevertheless, excellent. It may be used as a solo upgrade. The 5 Led Side is even, bright and very blue. The Gecko v3 Side has a range of settings, I expect to use "Moon Milk" predominantly. The colour balance is also acceptable (5000k). Both items displace the Petzl reflector but this is not essential even if keeping the Petzl Led 5 or Led 14 Side. Both upgrades claim improved battery life. We will see. NB. The weatherproof nature of the unit make initial dismantling a challenge. The x 4 AA cartridge with clip retention is a significant improvement over the 4 .5V flat battery system used so effectively in the originals. I now need a rechargeable cartridge and the car charging unit. These are regrettably, hideously expensive. Probably not the general gushing review you expected but I now have the tool for the job. Best Rgds. CanoeCaper.
