“Unfortunately, the lock is impractical. It looks very cool. However:
Too short: It's too short to secure two bicycles together, and also not long enough to attach a bicycle (frame and rear wheel) to a lamppost.
Not flexible: It's not possible to extend the chain lock with a steel cable loop. The locking mechanism sits very close to the chain links (certainly for security reasons), meaning the loop of a steel cable can not be connect to the Chainlock.
Too cumbersome: When you want to lock it, you must leave the key in the lock at all times and can only remove it once you've secured it. Other locks simply "snap" shut and lock automatically. This is really impractical, particularly if you're doing stop-and-go shopping with more than four stops in an hour.
The only one lock with belt function: Unfortunately, it's the only lock that can be used as a belt with a simple click mechanism. (The light version only has a Velcro fastener. This is impractical, as all my Velcro fasteners have eventually become dirty at some point.)
Conclusion: A great idea! Very quality material. I wish there was a version 2.0 with different lengths (after all, people have different waist sizes) and the option to extend the chain lock with a steel cable loop or similar. That could be sold directly as an add-on. Pity. I'd have liked to keep it, but it's too expensive to use it only when I do know that it could fit at the ride's destination parking.
PS: "You" have to pay for the return. And it is expensive when you by and return from the EU. 20 Euro lost for a test.”

If you’re after more locking length, you might prefer our longer loop chain/D lock combinations like the E-DX or DXXL, which can better secure two bikes.
“It was a relatively expensive product to be cynical about when buying, but this is a fabulous product, attention to detail with the manufacturing is great, it’s a chain with a lock but it’s beautifully finished and the wait system is simple and easy to use with gloves on, I’d highly recommend this and looking to buy another for my wife, last of the romantics eh?!”
“Seems well made and strong. Hopefully I wont need to test it! The only negative so far is the superbright side of the cover seems to mark easily. Only used it a couple of times and the are marks from the bike wheel which dont seem to come off when wiped but its a lock and I am OCD!”

“I had a Hiplok that I unfortunately lost recently. No problem, I thought, I'll just buy a new one. I settled on the Hiplok Gold and the heftiness and solidity of the chain feel right in line with the previous lock's quality. Unfortunately, I really hate the clasp that locks it up instead of the velcro I had previously. It feels like it's much harder to dial in the fit, and it makes actually locking the chain more of a PITA than the previous lock. I'm not going to return the lock, and I don't want to make it sound like I'm unhappy about my purchase. But this is a situation where it feels like it's a step backwards in build”

Our sleeve for the Hiplok Original uses velcro instead of a clasp so while the fit will be a little tighter, this sleeve can be used with the Gold. We sell replacement sleeves separate on our website.
“On my first outing with the lock, despite the lock probably weighing more than my bike, I did not notice the addition weight on my person, it took me half of my train journey to realise I was still wearing it. I appreciate the adjustable nature of it, as it doubles as a nice little belt to keep my shirt down and make sure I’m not accidentally flashing my underwear to any drivers or cyclists behind me!
