“I bought this to replace an improvised version: a sturdy chain in a sheath with a decent padlock and a carabiner clip to secure it round my waist. That was actually quite good, but the Hiplok is more comfortable and easier to secure round your waist. The comfort is partly because the lock has a curved shape against your hip and partly because the velcro fastening allows you to have it exactly as tight or loose as you like around your waist/hips. I had expected to wear the Hiplok under my jersey, as I did with the improvised version. That didn't really work because the exposed part of the velcro tends to tear at the inside of your jersey. So I wear the Hiplok on the outside, even when I'm wearing a jacket over my jersey. It sits just above the jersey pockets, and makes their contents a bit less accessible. That isn't a big deal for me, but perhaps worth mentioning. Having said that, the fit and convenience of the velcro fastening is so good that I wouldn't have it any other way. I think it's a great product.”
