“Doesn't fit inside of roof top tent shell. I have watched video, read other reviews, looked at pictures. No matter what way I lay the steps when putting the tent away, the shell will not close.

Without seeing your exact experience we can only offer some advice, but if you push the HC steps through each step before collapsing the ladder, they should lay flat and fit. They do take up more space in the tent, so you'll need to experiment with how much additional gear you bring along to find the right balance. This video does a really good job of showing how to prepare the steps for storage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENQPC7sgOeM&t=164s

“Was successful on the first try with getting my dog to use these steps to get up the ladder safely. So much better than having to lug him up and down! He even puts himself to bed now when we’re staying out too late”
“As someone with slight mobility issues, this makes me feel much more comfortable for getting in and out of the tent. Also excellent for getting my dog into the tent too! (I know the ladder is too angled out. I was working on my small dog getting used to it)”
“I struggled with setting it up and it didn't quite function as it appears in the photos. Some step pockets were deeper than others so it feels like I had to kick in the pockets at each step. Also, putting it back was impossible because my clamshell would not close. It was just big enough that my ladder wouldn't collapse the 1" it needed to close it.
I might've done something wrong with the setup but I didn't wanna spend another hour figuring this thing out. It seems like it could come in handy so I will try to do it again.

Thank you for your review of our HC steps!
I had the same issue at first too. The way I found to be able to get it closed is before folding up the ladder, push all the HC steps back through each rung of the ladder so that they are pointing out towards you and you would not be able to climb the ladder, then fold up the ladder.
I know this is kind of hard to explain, but when you fold the ladder and close the extension panel, the ladder should lay flat and the stairs should stick up a little bit and that way you should still be able to close the tent.
