Awning 2.0 Skycamp, Skycamp 2X, X-Cover Reviews

4.8 Rating 24 Reviews
The awning is a highly recommended accessory. It allows for adding a lot of additional covered space under the tent to protect from sun and rain. The quality is apparent in the materials and attention to detail. The poles are telescoping and allows the awning to be level on unlevel ground and ample room for tall folks. Of course it all fits into a small bag that is easy to transport.

WELL DONE! This is a very easy setup awning and we just love it. Very spacious and waterproof. I recommend this 100% for those who goes out camping a lot. You never know what to expect for weather, it covers you for both sun and rain :)!

The awning is my favorite accessory! It zips on and sets up in just a few minutes (1 zipper, 4 poles, 6 guylines) and it's HUGE! While the annex room makes for an impressive and useful addition for longer stays, the awning is quick, easy and very effective for shorter campouts. The quality is 1st class, just like the Skycamp and it folds up quite nicely and easily to be stored in its included tote bag along with the poles and lines! Speaking of the poles and lines, if you've ever bought a tent before - of any kind, you're in for a treat. They are NOT normal - moreso the Cadillac version. I know it sounds silly to get excited over tent poles, but trust me - they're something to get excited over! Well done (again) iKamper!

The quality of the awning is very good. The fabric is strong and waterproof. It has help up well in mild wind. I LOVE that you can get in and out of the tent under cover. This is a huge improvement over most awning/RTT setups since your awning is typically attached to your roof rack, below your rooftop tent making the two incompatible. However, what I don't love are all the poles and guy wires. They take too long to setup (for my taste) and I end up tripping over the wires. If they could find a way to incorporate a poleless foxwing style awning that would be amazing althought its probably not practical. I plan to add a foxwing style on one side of my setup (for shade), and keep the skycamp awning off most the time unless the weather report calls for rain. Overall a great product though and really great addition to the skycamp. I was on the fence originally, and I'm glad a sprung the extra money for the awning.

If you are going to buy the skycamp, this is a must have accessory. The awning not only gives you a place to hang out if it is raining, or a place to sit in the shade, but it also provides a dry ladder when get in and out of the tent. The materials it is made of is top quality and should last for years to come. Make sure to bring an extra chair as someone will want to join you while you hang out in your "base camp" away from the elements! :)

I took out the iKamper SkyCamp last weekend for a one-night test run and got a good feel of how to set it up and sleep in the tent. I've camped in Tepui tent of a diffrent types as well. I prefer the cotton/canvas vs nylon canopies. The canvas feels more substantial and insulated from sound. Flapping from a nylon tent can keep you up at night. I'm really a big fan of the zip on awning! I really like that the awning just extends from the rain fly. I don't really need a full room which is the only option on Tepui/CVT and others and I don't want to buy a separate awning that would have to be mounted on the opposite side of the vehicle, it would just split up the area too much, I want to just set up on one side of the vehicle. I like that two rain flys are included, the small rain fly is kinda hidden away, but for a quick stay, the small fly does not require the spring still support rods making the set up even faster. When closing up the tent, the canopy tends to billow out the ends and it's tough to reach them to tuck them back in, however, I devised a very simple solution, just an elastic cord attached to the sides and connected in the middle, the elastic cord draws in the canopy automatically. This issue is not isolated to the skycamp, seems all the tents require a lot of tucking to get the canopy stowed, but with this little mod the iKamper is ultra fast to stow. The Toyota Tundra has a big v8 and only gets 13 mpg normally, I tracked the mileage over a 300-mile trip and having the iKamper lowered the mileage by .5 mpg. With the iKamper set far back on the vehicle, it wasn't noticable. A big vehicle with a lot of mass I think will have much less impact on mpg than a proportionately smaller vehicle to the iKamper, I've heard others with smaller vehicles like a Subaru Forester getting 1-2 mpg hit but that's to be expected. I would really like to see iKamper come out with a medium size SkyCamp, a queen size bed version that would have a shorter form factor and fit better on mid size trucks and SUV. I need the king size now with my wife and two daughters but I can see how others would be happy with a medium.

Rain storm was coming in Yellowstone. Didn't think we had much time til getting wet. Setup was quick and we had ample space for all 3 of us to eat, cook and visit. If you get a SkyCamp then the awning is a must. Zips in fast and nice quality poles that adjust to many heights. Fabric is heavy duty. A little difficult to fold back up but I attribute it akin to a fitted sheet (folds not so smooth but functions great). Even so, there is plenty of room in the carrying case. Have I mentioned how excited I am about the SkyCamp and future camping trips!

I was so excited when we received our ikamper, but the first time we got to take it out and set up the awning for some shade was the best thing ever!! It is soooo much bigger than I anticipated but incredibly easy to set up!
