It does not keep ice, but I personally find it easier to drink more water when it is not ice cold. Spring for the stainless steel jug if you want ice cold all day! Worried it won't fit in your cup holder in the car I mostly ride solo and find that looping the sleeve strap around the passenger headrest works to keep the bottle from flying around on the drive!
