“On unpackaging, the Hopper 2 was slightly lighter than specified (around 2.4kg), and the diameter of the overall tent could possibly be reduced even more with ties around the carry bag, making for a little less bulk in a pack.
Immediately set it up in our humble sized living room, and was surprised at how little room it needed. Id watched the tent being set up in the video once prior to purchasing and gave the instructions a cursory man-glance before diving right in, and even with the help of our 3 year old, it was up in under five minutes. It looked and felt solid, even without properly pegging or running guy lines.
The design is clever yet simple, and the construction cant be faulted. The materials all seem to be of good quality, even though the ripstop nylon is deceptively thin. However, the water rating of it satisfies any concerns i have in that regard. The floor area is a bit small for the standard inflatable matresses we have, but proper hiking mats will fit easily with space to spare (and are also on our list of products to buy from Intents Outdoors when budget allows). That said, Im confident that the wife and i could fit comfortably, even with the aforementioned 3yo wriggling around everywhere. Its yet to be field tested, but the tent itself seemed to trap a little heat inside with vents closed which would be handy in miserable conditions. Easy access to the vents from inside is also a boon in that kind of situation.
Unfortunately, at time of purchase there were no ground sheets in stock, and this is required for fly-only setup, and considering how light and thin the floor is, itd be nice to have the reassurance that the floor is protected. A quick check for hazards before pitching should cover that concern as well.
Overall I love the tent and wouldnt have any hesitation in recommending it, and only wish i had the need, time, and money to try out the rest of the range Intents Outdoors has to offer.”
“Great light tent tested in NZ South Island. Ideal for emergency accommodation in 3 season situations. High side walls means it could fit 3 adults at a squeeze or even a young family with kids head to toe if the hut is full! Recommend using the available groundsheet to save the thin floor.”
