As the title suggests, I regret doing the 4-week course, and I honestly feel they shouldn’t even offer it. Even though the teachers are helpful and informative and do what they can to make you feel at ease, there’s just way too much information to study. You spend several hours in class going over whatever you had to read the night before and then have to spend every single day, weekends included, reading more stuff, completing the homework, and playing catch up because there’s just no way any working adult has that much time. It’s really a shame, because the course was otherwise so well-constructed that if I had done the 11-week version I probably wouldn’t have been so overwhelmed and would’ve had nothing but praise for it. The teachers genuinely want to see you succeed. You’ll never be afraid to reach out and ask them for help or advice. One of them had a bad habit of lecturing on and on, so no one could get a word in, but one of her lessons is still the most memorable to me to this day well over a year later. Which actually brings me to the next thing. I took away two stars for the speed and feeling overwhelmed, but also a third star for the lack of information retained. I remember virtually nothing from this course. Part of it might be because I didn’t go on to teach English afterwards, but even right after I finished the course, I had no idea what to do because everything was a blur. I probably could’ve figured it out from the bits and pieces I did remember, but I just don’t think anyone ever wants to be in that position, struggling to figure things out because you just don’t remember anything. If I wanted to teach English now, I might have to do the whole course (obviously the longer version this time) over again, because I just don’t feel qualified to teach anymore. That’s $2k down the drain, for a piece of paper that says I scored very high at something I can’t actually do. I don’t know how many of my fellow students will leave this honest a review, but when we spoke to each other back then, we all felt more or less the same way, that everything was too fast and that we often resorted to skimming the textbook instead of actually reading it. If ITA sees this review, I hope they’ll seriously reconsider offering this course. For anyone considering taking it, please take this advice from someone who ultimately still got an A in the course: the 4-week version is ultimately not worth it. Absolutely go for the longer one if you can.
