I attended ITA in 2019 at the Chicago campus and I had a wonderful time. Classes were expertly structured, class size was small and teachers were thoughtful and thorough with their instruction. Sadly for me, Covid changed the trajectory of how- and where- I used my certification. I didn't end up going to Korea, but because of the ITA's comprehensive curriculum, I am now working as a teacher here in the States. Bottom line: My career today wouldn't have been possible without ITA's accessibility and affordability. If you're on the fence about attending, let this be the push you need to enroll today.

I've just completed teaching my 8th year teaching English as a foreign language. I recall my International TELF Acadamy course fondly because I learned there the fundamentals that I needed to know. Working hard in that course opened the door to a new world and changed life, very much for the better. Unlike the other newly-minted teachers in my class, I had just retired from a successful career. I wanted the benefit of a professionally taught, in-person course to qualify me to teach abroad. My ITA certificate was immediately accepted in Germany, my goal country, and I was teaching as soon as my German long-term visa/work permit was granted. If you intend to teach adults -- my goal -- you must understand English grammar as a non-native speaker perceives it. It is insufficient to merely know what "sounds right." You must know why it is right, and be able to express that in words the learners can understand. Sometimes questions are specific and sophisticated. The very first question posed to me was, "Can you help me review the proper use of English verb forms for conditionals two and three?" Because ITA helped me acquire that knowledge, I was able to smile and reply "Of course. ...and don't worry, it's not hard at all, just a bit different from German" I still teach those lessons -- and regularly refine them -- I leave my students nodding and happy. For the first time, they understand. People who speak other languages often express their ideas utterly differently than how we do in English (it's called "non-equivalence"). If you apply yourself and are vigorous, ITA can help you learn how to explain the inner-workings of English to people whose everyday expression is sometimes very different. You can also learn how to teach people who sometimes understand you only with difficulty. How to do this is not inherently obvious. These are skills that can be learned at ITA if you apply yourself. The ITA course was designed to be intense and focused. I took advantage of that opportunity and worked vigorously. I'm glad I did because the skills I acquired helped me to live and work in the foreign country of my choice. I quickly found high-quality schools and I was promptly hired by all three I applied to (in Germany, foreign language teachers are almost always independent contractors. You work for multiple schools ). Eight years later, I still work every day for those three excellent schools, plus a fourth that heard about me and asked me to work for them too. I have private students as well, referred to me by former satisfied students. Teaching English abroad is a marvelous retirement career. The schools I work for are pleased to hire "seniors" because they are more financially stable and have a wealth of experience to bring to the classes. Teaching in retirement allows you to find a new purpose in life, while still using your previously-learned skills. I work every day with intelligent adult students, highly motivated to improve their English skills because English has become crucial for international business. In the meanwhile, I've become fluent in German (and pretty good at French, too), and I've had the marvelous experience of traveling Europe with my wife and learning a new way of life. If you intend to take an International TEFL Academy course, urge yourself to work intensively, diligently and well. Do this for your own personal development. Teaching English as a foreign language requires different skills, abilities and knowledge than what native English speakers learn in school and college. ITA can help you prepare yourself to impress the most important people in your new life -- your students.
