“Purchased a Trouper bag a little over two years ago. Bag already has a big hole where the grab strap is stitched to the cooler top. After contacting Jones, they offered me 40% off a new one. Two days later all bags were 40% off. Quality on these bags is not very good and the costumer service is even worse.”
“I love this bag. it's a comfy carry, has all the pockets I need for everything, nice cooler lined area for that kinda thing. But top notch is the customer service I've received from Jones. Whether it's a new strap for a bag, those little bands that they used to use to hold down the legs if you put it on a cart to keep them from opening, replaced free of charge, etc. Ths is my second of these bags, the first had a very minor tear after a year and they replaced it free of charge. Top notch in my book!”
“This is my first non-Ping bag in ~28 years and I'm a fan. I actually really dig the shoulder straps - reminds of when the OG Ping L8 went dual strap and used a very similar design. I live in the PNW and all about supporting local companies, especially when they're making rad gear. The classic style/aesthetic is best in class and the arrangement of the 5-way top divider is ideal. I do think it could very easily be better. I play the majority of my golf carrying or push carting and have played about 10+ rounds with the Trouper 3.0 and here are my ideas/opinions for making it a better bag.
- Full length divider for the top club divider. I used this for my putter and in the age of fat putter grips, which I have, I think a full length divider would dramatically decrease the club tangle that I find has been the worst with the top two divider pockets.
- Full-size, flex base. Bring the Rover base to the Trouper line. It would be better for push carts and is better looking.
- Larger hip pad. Same comment as the base - bring the Rover pad to the Trouper line.
- Make both straps easily removable. Because the service at Jones is awesome, they sent me a strap swivel snap (free) and with that I was able to do my own modification to make the secondary strap removable by adding a lower buckle. I like to remove the straps on push cart days.
- Increase the size of the main storage pocket a little bit (maybe via expansion zipper) and add an interior liner to prevent the fleece valuables pockets from flopping around while trying to load/unload stuff in the main pocket. Not a huge deal but I use both valuables pockets and they make it a little annoying getting in/out of the main pocket.
- Add a horizontal, or diagonal, zipper near the bottom 1/3 of the cooler pocket. The side zip is fine as-is, but when walking it'd be nice to have a zipper that's easier to access the small space beneath the cooler pocket is great for storing a couple balls, snacks, etc. I can reach the vertical side zip while walking but definitely feel my shoulder inflexibility when I do.
Awesome bag, super satisfied with my purchase, not going back to Ping anytime soon, and curious to see what the 4.0 might bring.”
“Very good bag but don’t think I’d recommend. Been using the bag now for a few months and can honestly say I’ve greatly enjoyed using it. Have also gotten a number of compliments on the style of it. My reason for the not great rating is that there have been several areas now that are showing rust. To me that speaks to the quality of the material used. Golf bags are going to get rained on from time to time and for this being a brand new bag I feel like it should not have these showings of rust at this point. Tough to recommend a product when it doesn’t look like it’s going to last. Disappointing because I read so much of the great reputation of Jones gear.”
