The unit as delivered was not properly quality checked. The circuit board was crooked in the unit, with the result that the leaf contact did not make firm contact with the HV takeoff. The crooked board also made it difficult to put the top on, because of interference. I bent the leaf contact so that it would make firm contact, and filed the interfering plastic edges so that, with rechargable D-batteries in the unit, the cover could go on without difficulty.

I am not sure itpf it is strong enough to electrify my 164 ft netting. Not sure it's the fence or the controller

Plastic battery retaining tab broke off the day I received the item. Would have returned unit and purchased a different one but, needed the energizer immediately. I used strap ties to hold battery compartment closed so unit would function.

I have a couple of small perennial beds and a small garden. The deer love to eat our stuff at night. Smelly repellents don't seem to work so we have bought several small electric fence chargers over the past years. Most have failed after a season or two. I bought this same unit under a different brand a few years back and love it. I get 6 weeks or so off 4 D-cells. The LED indicator is very bright and can be monitored from 30 feet away; more at night. When the batteries get low, the LED's flash rapidly letting you know to change the batteries. This thing carries a good "kick" too. Just be careful when you change the batteries as the top plastic lock mechanism is fragile. I broke it on my old unit but figured out a way to rig a metal retainer over the top so I could continue to use it. It mounts easlily on top of a metal ground rod.

This is not a review on rope but the accompanying electric fence charger. Not working for me. Received it but in opening the battery cover, the plastic top broke. It will not be possible to locate in the rain and snow. Cheap construction. Sorry I purchased.

I purchased this for use with portable fencing at trail rides and it had its first test this weekend - not a huge shock using 4 D-cell batteries, but enough to keep the horses off the fence and contained in their area which is exactly what I was looking for. Very happy with this.

I purchased the Kencove Strip Grazer to use in the installation of a temporary electric fence to keep deer out of my backyard. I used Polywire also with this installation. I chose the Kencove Strip Grazer because it is battery operated and the grounding post connects directly to the charger. Having no hard wiring available this is an ideal solution. The charge that runs through the line is similar to a strong static electric shock when touching a metal object. My fence run is about 100' and is fully charged. Initially I used 4D batteries to operate the charger. The manual includes a chart on the life expectancy of the batteries, which is about 4 to 5 weeks. I decided to buy a rechargeable 12 volt battery (connecters are included with the Kencove Strip Grazer) instead of using the 4D batteries, for longer battery life. Changing the D batteries would have been cumbersome, having to disconnect the charger and turning it upside down to remove old batteries. When first installing the D batteries, as I removed the top I broke one of the plastic clips on the lid. There is a 3 year warranty on the product but instead of returning the charger and delaying my fence installation I wired the lid shut. Using the 12 volt battery and the D batteries removed the top no longer needed to be wired. I purchased the rechargeable 12 volt battery on Amazon.com. I also purchased a "marine" battery box to protect the battery from the rain. I am very happy with the purchase of the Kencove Strip Grazer. It is my hope that the deer will be very unhappy with my purchase. I hope the charge will be enough of a deer-terrent, if not in the spirit of "Tim the tool man" I will just change it up and charge it up!
