Heavy-Duty Single-Throw Cut-Out Switch Reviews

4.6 Rating 29 Reviews
Read Kencove Farm Fence, Inc Reviews

Cut-out switches are used to turn electric off along the fence line while troubleshooting or making repairs. Install one on each corner to eliminate a trip to the energizer. Unused pastures and heavily weeded bottom wires may also be easily disconnected to increase fence voltage.
The Heavy-Duty Single-Throw Cut-Out Switch has two sets of stainless contacts along the stainless-steel knife. The pivot bolt for the knife is not an electrical contact, which allows for easier movement of the knife. The yellow handle allows you to see on/off positions from a distance.

Much better physical contact of the blade in the receiver part of the switch. You can't have good electrical contact without a strong physical one

This is my favorite design of switch that I install on the solar electric fence shock boxes I make because the yellow handle is easy to see from a distance if the switch is on or off., However, before I install them, I replace the bolts with a higher quality stainless steel because although these are stainless, they still rust after about 6 months or so here in the rain forest of Hawaii.

Not that I've scoured the Earth or anything, but I personally have just not come across these types of switches that are both effective, long-lasting, AND available at a decent price point. I've got 10+ years on some of my installed switches, and the worst that has happened is that the plastic has faded (going from glossy black to a somewhat ashy grey), and there are some very minor rust patches on the bar. Totally aesthetic so far as I can tell (meaning, I have no voltage-based evidence that the integrity of the circuit is diminished at all).

Works better than most, the knife pivot bolt isn't used as a wire terminal. Seems to hold up well to weather.

Although this product does perform as advertised I found the hardware to be pretty lightweight. Only time will tell, but I'm not confident this item will stand up to the elements well. It was also really hard to attach wire to the thumbscrews, I ended up using the side opposite the wingnut to attach the wire since tightening down on the wingnut side was almost impossible.

Okay if mounted on solid backing, such as wood post, tree, etc. Have had a couple break apart in the past, due to longevity (10 years plus) and probable mismounting.

Electric fence cut-off switches are amazingly poorly made. Just look at the cheap plastic ones at Tractor Supply from Zabara. The Kencove switch is pretty good, with wingnuts to tighten the connections. It is secured by four screws into the posts (not included) and Kencove could improve the product by making this area sturdier; if you over tighten the screws, then the plastic will crack.
