Heavy-Duty Double Cut-Out Switch Reviews

4.2 Rating 14 Reviews
Read Kencove Farm Fence, Inc Reviews

Cut-out switches are used to turn electric off along the fence line while troubleshooting or making repairs. Install one on each corner to eliminate a trip to the energizer. Unused pastures and heavily weeded bottom wires may also be easily disconnected to increase fence voltage.
Kencove designed this double cut-out switch to use the easy hook-up of the Split-Bolt Tap. The contacts are independent of the knife pivot, which can easily be changed to a double-throw switch.

Great design but be gentle in your mounting and tightening. If you screw it to a wood post, go slow in the last little bit of securing the screws, the pressure of the screws final tightening will crack the bracket. Also go easy on the final tightening of the wire behind the nut. Use a 7/8" socket for easier installation.

I think it is serviceable and good quality, especially for the price, though I actually need a 3-way switch (which you don't sell). I would modify it by lengthening/raising the first set of contacts so they engage with the knife further from contact with the second set.

I have used other fence switches before but they are usually small and cheaply made. This is made of so solid material. I used this with underground 12 gauge wire leading to each line. The bright yellow handle helps prevent accidental shocks.

I configured the cutout switch to be a two-way "this way or that way" switch. It sends electricity down one stretch of fence or the other. It does its job well. It conducts well and there is no risk of shock when throwing the switch. It can be converted back to a standard 2-way pretty quickly. On the downside the plastic body is very thin and weak. I cracked two when attaching them to wooden posts. They still work but for the price they can afford to be made of tougher plastic.
