O'Briens Geared Electric Fencing Reel Reviews

4.8 Rating 16 Reviews
Read Kencove Farm Fence, Inc Reviews

The Speedrite Geared Reels have a 3:1 ratio, which means for each turn of the handle, the bobbin spins three times. When rewinding long lengths of twine or ribbon, the extra cost of the geared reel is a worthwhile, timesaving investment. Holds up to 660ft of ribbon or 1,640ft of twine Features an easy-grip handle, wire guide, and handle hook Includes a non-conductive gate handleDesigned to hang directly onto a perimeter fence by the metal hook on the handle frame High-impact polymer Made in New ZealandTo electrify the polywire, simply use a 4ft Jumper Lead (MPC). Attach one clip to the electrified perimeter fence wire and the other to the metal loop on the side of the reel.Upgrade your reel with the heavy-duty guide (RRWG). It bolts quickly to the frame and provides a sturdy guide option that can weather the elements

This is a nicely built reel, but a small plastic nut cover did break off when I was installing the wire, I wish it had come with some simple instructions; I'm new to fencing and didn't realize the polywire had to be installed in a particular direction in order for the gear stop to work. Also, it holds about 1000 ft of 9strand polywire before it starts to overfill and tangle.

Time will tell on the durability but it seems like a nice product. I have had the O'Brian 3:1 for 3 years, no problems. I had the China made 3:1 reel, lasted a year. I have had 4 of the old O'Brian's 1:1 for 6 years, no problems but I think they made better than the ones sold today. I am changing over to all 3:1 reels. I move my cattle daily so the 3:1 works better for me. I hook the end of the reel to my 4wheeler and take up the posts. When I get to the reel, I start taking up the wire. No walking to take up. If you have to walk to take up your wire, a 1:1 would probably serve you just as well.
