“I was given this ear thermometer to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. It couldn't have arrived at more perfect time as the whole household was not feeling great. Setting up the thermometer in the app was fast and easy. There were many features of the app that were incredibly helpful including the symptom assessment and tips for dealing with those symptoms.
The thermometer worked quickly, which we all know is helpful with sick kids. However, we did find that the sensor end was a little bit too large for my 4 year olds ear to get an accurate reading. Overall, we are very happy with the thermometer but will stick with using it on the older kids.”
“My two older children are in school and part of their daily check in process is for parents to screen for temperatures at home and report through the school's fever tracking app. The thermometer we were using previously frequently gave us inconsistent temperature readings, so we were very excited to try the Kinsa thermometer as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel.
The app was very easy to use and navigate. I love that you can create different profiles for family members. Since I have to take two different readings every morning it makes it easy to track which reading is for each child for school reporting. My kids liked being able to pick their avatar, something that seems so trivial but helped my kids be more cooperative with temperature checks.
This thermometer is FAST when it comes to temperature checks, which is a HUGE win for our family. I have a 3 year old that I have to report on, and it is hard to get him to sit still for a reading. The Kinsa works quickly, so I am not wrestling down a small child.
I compared it to my previous thermometer by doing multiple temperature checks. We consistently got the same reading when checking our children, as compared to our old one that would fluctuate .4 degrees per reading.
I do wish that it came with the ear sanitizer plastic tip cover that you can change out with each person that uses it, but it wasn't a huge deal breaker. Overall the design is standard, it doesn't look fancy or like a technical gadget, but it is pretty nifty to use. I am happy with the product, the readings it provides and the ability to track temperatures in an app.”
“I was able to very quickly get the app set up and add multiple profiles for my two children. Set up was intuitive and easy to follow; my only concern was tracking of information but the app allows you to opt-out of that or choose to share information for virus and trend tracking. I love that the app keeps track of temperatures (you can save readings to different profiles), so that in the middle of the night when I'm exhausted from caring for a sick toddler, I can easily know if their temperature has gone up significantly or not. I also found the thermometer itself super easy--one button operation--and accurate given it's an ear reading. “I really like how fast this thermometer is to set up and to use. My daughter got a cold last week and, especially given the pandemic, we were concerned when she started running a fever. I really appreciated that the thermometer gave me a reading in under 2 seconds, a must for any squirmy sick child. I found that the temperature reading did vary depending on how I angled it, so I sometimes retook the reading a few times, especially if it was on the border of being a fever or not, for which I deducted one star. It seemed to be very comfortable for the kids: neither of my children complained about any discomfort when I asked how it felt to "tickle their ears" with the thermometer.
My husband and I both easily downloaded the app to our phones and coordinated our use and tracking of the kids' temperatures, which is a fantastic feature and helped us communicate with the doctor and monitor the temperature and medicine dosages properly. Especially when parents are woken up in the middle of the night with a sick kid, it's amazing to have access to that info and a fast-working device to help everyone get more sleep.

“I received the Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer a couple of weeks ago- just in time for my three littles to get a nasty stomach bug. Though I was disappointed to see my kids sick, I got an opportunity to put my Kinsa to the test. For the first round of sickness, the Kinsa thermometer worked great. However, after the second kid came down with the stomach bug, it wasn't reading accurately. As my kid's temperatures were running high, I went back to my old thermometer. I did continue to use the app to help track temperatures, symptoms, and medicine doses. The app is spectacular. I was able to track the amount for each dose- remembering the proper dosage for each child gets difficult as the sickness continues and the sleep is non-existent. The app also gives pointers on how to manage the fever and when to call the doctor or go to the ER. It was super helpful in managing all three kids' temperatures and medicine intake. For the app alone, the Kinsa was super helpful. It was incredibly disappointing that the thermometer wasn't reading the correct temperatures when I needed it most, but the app was incredibly helpful for this tired and stressed mama. “I received the Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer from the Stellar Product Testing Panel. Setting up the thermometer and the app was a breeze! I was quickly able to set up profiles for each of my kids and myself and my husband. It was so simple assign the readings to the right person which will make it so easy to keep track when they get sick. Unfortunately, I never could get an accurate reading from my unit. Coincidentally, the day this arrived my oldest was coming down with a cold so I was tracking her temperature and was able to compare it to the 2 other thermometers we have been using (another ear thermometer and a forehead sensor) and the Kinsa kept giving me low readings compared to the others. At one point her temp on the other 2 was 100.2 and the Kinsa read 97.2 or below. I contacted customer service and within an hour received a reply helping me to troubleshoot and when that didn't work they sent my the instructions to replace the unit. I'm really happy with the customer service and the app and can't wait to use the thermometer because the combination of the super fast readings and the app is such a winner for me.”
“This is my second Kinsa product. I already have the oral, axillary, rectal version, but this ear thermometer was a welcome addition. I was already familiar with using the Kinsa App so adding this new thermometer was a peice of cake. For someone using Kinsa for the first time there will some additional steps to get it setup which I would recommend doing as soon as you buy the product, and not waiting until when you're eager to take a temperature the first time. I will say there is a bit of a learning curve with this thermometer if you don't know what you're doing. I see many reviews saying this thermometer doesn't take accurate temperature, but in most cases it's user error. The thermometer isn't meant to be directed at the outer ear or the ear canal, this will obviously pick up a lower temperature. It should be pointed to the tympanic membrane, where you'd look at the ear drum. My husband is a physician so it was easy for us to get the correct positioning to take accurate measurements, which we could also verify with a secondary forehead scanner. The instructions do say to adjust the outer ear but perhaps more explicit instructions would be helpful. I can understand why so many people are getting false readings. It just takes a little practice.
As far as the App goes, I'm a huge fan. It's actually one of my favorite features of the Kinsa products. I like that it tracks all the readings for you and stores them. You can even have a different profile for each family member. It tells you what temperature method was used as well.(ie. Oral, ear...) It also will alert you to the ranges of fever. So for example a temp of 101 will have a color change and register as a mild fever, where 99 will register as normal. Not only that, but I get email updates giving me advice on things I can try to relieve fever and basic helpful tips from Kinsa to my email once it has registered that someone in the family has a fever or may be ill. The App I found extremely easy to navigate and the thermometer itself is easy to use once you get the hang of it. I myself like to use two methods for taking temperature to compare results, so having this additional ear thermometer gives me more peace of mind.
