I've heard about these, but we already had a thermometer and I didn't believe they were as great as everyone says. I was wrong! It works so quickly once you press the button. And I'd say it's very accurate. I got the same reading in both ears on myself and my two kids. I was apprehensive that it would work on my 8 month old, but it's so speedy that I was able to get her temperature in both ears before she moved! The app is awesome. So easy to use and set up. You can make a profile for each family member! It's nice because I can send my thermometer with the kids when I'm at work and check on their temperatures if they're feeling unwell. The app has to be my favorite feature!”
“What a neat device to better monitor the health of your family in an easy, accurate way! I used this thermometer both when I was healthy to test it and also when my son had a cold.
- The app downloaded quickly with no issue. It is compatible with iPhones and Androids. I use an iPhone. Downloading the app to receiving the result took roughly a minute. The result comes back in one second. It even comes with batteries. It can sync with apple health. It also can be used separate from a phone.
- The response time of the thermometer was the fastest I have experienced for an ear thermometer. I especially appreciated the speed of the thermometer because my son hates when I take his temperature.
- I compared the temp with two other ear thermometers and an oral and am confident it was accurate. I also took a series and it stayed consistent. A smiley face shows if it is concerning or not.
-The app is fantastic. You can choose different profiles so the thermometer will determine if the temp is normal for age. It also records what the temp is so you can monitor over time or provide it to a health care worker. You can also document symptoms, med doses with times, diagnoses, etc. It can set reminders to take a temperature. It even forecasts the risk of illness in your community, specifically mentioning covid and flu rates, based on millions of smart devices. It ranges from low to critical, providing a numeric figure. I'm a nurse so this is really cool to me. It can detect an abnormal bump in fevers, giving schools and communities a heads up about a spread in illness, capturing cases at home that maybe were not presenting in a medical clinic. Very cool! “This ear thermometer actually works! I was skeptical at first because I have always had bad luck with thermometers, but on was pleasantly surprised to find that this thermometer is simple to use. I like how it connects to an app and will prompt me if the temperature is too high (I've only tested it on heathy people- no sickness yet!). It's easy to use and I feel confident that it will give me the correct temperature when I need to use it.

“As a mom and a nurse with small children, I've tried too many thermometers to count. From the best rated thermometers out there (think lots of dollar signs) down to the cheap ones that come for free in the baby grooming kits. I've never been truly satisfied with a thermometer. “I was given this ear thermometer to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. As mom to a little who attends day care, taking temperatures is now part of every day life. The Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer makes it so easy! It accurately reads temperature in literally one second with just the push of a button - perfect for a squirmy toddler. An added bonus is that it doesn't require costly, environmentally-unfriendly disposable plastic covers. You can simply clean it with rubbing alcohol! The thermometer connects via Bluetooth to a simple-to-navigate app that allows you to track temperatures for each family member. This helps you see when something is out of the ordinary and how an illness progresses over time. There are even options to note additional symptoms, medications, and more, so all your illness info is handy when you call the doctor. I especially loved the ability to share a temperature history, which I used for communicating with my partner and my child's caregivers when my child recently caught a spring cold. The only thing I felt was missing from the app was a graph (as an alternate view to the timeline) and an average temperature calculation for each profile. The Kinsa app has a community illness tracker that connects with health databases to show you illness risk information based on your location, which is nice to check if something is going around and help give you peace of mind. When using an app, it's important to me to be able to control what data I share and know that it's safe. I felt Kinsa did both of these things well. This was by far the easiest, most convenient thermometer I've tried. It has become a staple in our sick day arsenal!”
“This is my second Kinsa product. I already have the oral, axillary, rectal version, but this ear thermometer was a welcome addition. I was already familiar with using the Kinsa App so adding this new thermometer was a peice of cake. For someone using Kinsa for the first time there will some additional steps to get it setup which I would recommend doing as soon as you buy the product, and not waiting until when you're eager to take a temperature the first time. I will say there is a bit of a learning curve with this thermometer if you don't know what you're doing. I see many reviews saying this thermometer doesn't take accurate temperature, but in most cases it's user error. The thermometer isn't meant to be directed at the outer ear or the ear canal, this will obviously pick up a lower temperature. It should be pointed to the tympanic membrane, where you'd look at the ear drum. My husband is a physician so it was easy for us to get the correct positioning to take accurate measurements, which we could also verify with a secondary forehead scanner. The instructions do say to adjust the outer ear but perhaps more explicit instructions would be helpful. I can understand why so many people are getting false readings. It just takes a little practice.
As far as the App goes, I'm a huge fan. It's actually one of my favorite features of the Kinsa products. I like that it tracks all the readings for you and stores them. You can even have a different profile for each family member. It tells you what temperature method was used as well.(ie. Oral, ear...) It also will alert you to the ranges of fever. So for example a temp of 101 will have a color change and register as a mild fever, where 99 will register as normal. Not only that, but I get email updates giving me advice on things I can try to relieve fever and basic helpful tips from Kinsa to my email once it has registered that someone in the family has a fever or may be ill. The App I found extremely easy to navigate and the thermometer itself is easy to use once you get the hang of it. I myself like to use two methods for taking temperature to compare results, so having this additional ear thermometer gives me more peace of mind. “I received the Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer from the Stellar Product Testing Panel. Setting up the thermometer and the app was a breeze! I was quickly able to set up profiles for each of my kids and myself and my husband. It was so simple assign the readings to the right person which will make it so easy to keep track when they get sick. Unfortunately, I never could get an accurate reading from my unit. Coincidentally, the day this arrived my oldest was coming down with a cold so I was tracking her temperature and was able to compare it to the 2 other thermometers we have been using (another ear thermometer and a forehead sensor) and the Kinsa kept giving me low readings compared to the others. At one point her temp on the other 2 was 100.2 and the Kinsa read 97.2 or below. I contacted customer service and within an hour received a reply helping me to troubleshoot and when that didn't work they sent my the instructions to replace the unit. I'm really happy with the customer service and the app and can't wait to use the thermometer because the combination of the super fast readings and the app is such a winner for me.”
“I received the Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer a couple of weeks ago- just in time for my three littles to get a nasty stomach bug. Though I was disappointed to see my kids sick, I got an opportunity to put my Kinsa to the test. For the first round of sickness, the Kinsa thermometer worked great. However, after the second kid came down with the stomach bug, it wasn't reading accurately. As my kid's temperatures were running high, I went back to my old thermometer. I did continue to use the app to help track temperatures, symptoms, and medicine doses. The app is spectacular. I was able to track the amount for each dose- remembering the proper dosage for each child gets difficult as the sickness continues and the sleep is non-existent. The app also gives pointers on how to manage the fever and when to call the doctor or go to the ER. It was super helpful in managing all three kids' temperatures and medicine intake. For the app alone, the Kinsa was super helpful. It was incredibly disappointing that the thermometer wasn't reading the correct temperatures when I needed it most, but the app was incredibly helpful for this tired and stressed mama.
