This is my second thermometer from Kinsa. I had the one that you need to connect to your phone, but I got a new phone with no jack. The wireless feature is much better.

Thanks, Rosa! We're so glad you like our new and improved wireless thermometers! The old wired Smart Stick ran into compatibility issues since fewer and fewer new phones have headphone jacks of their own these days. Hi Theresa, and thanks for the feedback! We're so sorry for the confusion here. Our Smart Thermometers are designed specifically to be used with the Kinsa app to enable their smart features. If you're looking for a plain ol' digital thermometer, a Kinsa may not be the best fit for you. But, we did design our thermometers to be used on their own without the app - in a pinch. But again, this isn't how they're meant to be used. To use your Smart Ear thermometer on its own: 1. Push the round button to turn on the thermometer. 2. Wait for APP to appear on the display. 3. QUICKLY double click the same round button again (think the same speed as double-clicking a mouse) When the display changes from APP to - - - (three blinking lines) your thermometer is ready to take a reading. APP will still occasionally reappear on the display (as a reminder to connect the app as intended) but it won't get in the way of taking new readings. Our daughter had a fever of unknown origin for months. The last month of it we got our Kinsa. We were able to pull a month’s worth of data to share with our specialist. She was amazed and it was so helpful for her to look at trends. It made life much easier around our house. We just ordered a second for the adults in our house.

I am ok with it but I prefer to use it sometimes without app. I would be great if the message "app" would stop flashing. Sometimes when you have a sick baby, you just need to know quickly the temperature. It is too much work to use the app all the time.

Got this as the pandemic was hitting the US. It’s a great tool and I love the app that stores our readings. Helpful to log issues and also when we go back to work and they ask us for daily readings we can use the app to document things. I will recommend this to my friends and family.
