Coffee cups are now estimated to be the second largest contributor to litter waste after plastic bottles. We use 1 billion coffee cups a year. And this number is increasing rapidly. The idea of using a reusable cup is great. But in reality they are bulky and not an option when you are always on the go. Like us, you probably already have a selection of reusable cups gathering dust in the kitchen cupboard. We’re just not using them. Why is that? To our way of thinking they are usually too big, too small, too heavy, too unstable, too leaky and too easy to forget. All we wanted was a reusable cup that you … errr … actually reuse!
What is Pokito made of?
In the development phase we trialled a variety of materials including silicone but our beta testers questioned its feel, heaviness and slight odour.  We eventually decided on TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) for the soft component and PP (polypropylene) for the hard bands.

I have only had my cup for two weeks but so far it's been great. The twist top means I don't have the risk that other cups have, of a spillage because the lid isn't pushed on properly. The cup itself doesn't have that rubber smell. It washes easily, and the hard plastic parts can all be removed for a more thorough wash. So far, so good!

I previously reviewed the Stojo collapsible cup, sharing reservations about the mug feeling flimsy to hold and a grip sleeve that slipped down. The Pokito has a rigid structure, a firm grip, and collapses easily. The screw-on lid seals well, and when I tipped the half-full mug on its side only a tiny amount leaked from the closed drinking spout. The drinking spout created a few drips as I was drinking though that could as easily be my messy drinking style. Like the Stojo silicone mug, the coffee won't going to stay super hot for long, at least not in a cold environment but it does perform well as a portable item that fits neatly into a handbag or backpack.
