Hold with one hand and lean slightly forwards over the aerator so that you can apply gently downward pressure on the shaft with the other hand. Now walk forwards and aerate. At the end of the run, pull it up and DROP it into position for the next run (watch your toes though); this sticks it well into the lawn ready to aerate....it's that simple.TIP: If you've got a lot of lawn to do cut some foam pipe insulation and cover the handle - very comfy

Very impressed with the build quality of this product. Once assembled I used it and found it to be much faster and easier than forking. Its a bit of a work out but easier than forking. It goes without saying that if the ground is solid then lets be fair nothing is going to be easy. I waited until after rain and found that by holding as per lawnsmith video I managed good aeration with little damage to the lawn. Very happy with this aerator.

Took a bit of fiddling to get assembled but once setup its a strong little tool to use. I recommend watering your lawn first before using it otherwise it will require a fair bit of force to get the sharp spikes in the ground. It does however do the job well once you get it going on wet grass. Be prepared it gives you a good workout too :)
