This is not a problem with this unit but is a problem with ALL hollow tines whether manual or powered. Ensure the soil is soft enough to penetrate but is not too soft that it 'squiggies' and blocks. A one metre piece of 10mm doweling can be poked into the tine to clear any blockage without bending down. Sometimes it is trial and error until you get the soil consistency right.TIP 2 Clear or Smash Cores: Don't leave the cores on the lawn. Either use the flat back of a landscapers rake to collect them or let them dry and go over them with a rotary mower to smash them. This distributes the soil as a top dressing but only works if your mower instructions allow it to be used without the box. Wear eye, face and leg protection.

Hi Steve Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback, and we are sorry to hear you are having some difficulties with the Greenkey Hollow Tine Aerator but hopefully we can help. This can sometimes happen when the conditions aren't quite and here are a few things that might be causing the aerator to struggle: *Dry, Warm Weather: If the weather’s been dry and warm for a few weeks, the ground can become really hard and compacted. Aeration works best in cooler, wetter autumn months. So, if you’re trying this in summer or after a dry spell, it might be a bit tricky. Ideally, wait for a month or two of cooler, wetter weather to get the best results. Check out more info here for timing tips! https://www.lawnsmith.co.uk/lawn-care-advice/aeration-equipment/when-to-aerate-the-lawn/ *Stony Ground: If the soil’s full of stones, it can make aerating difficult. If that’s the case, you might need to tackle that by removing some of the larger stones first. *Heavily Compacted Lawn: If the lawn has been heavily used or hasn’t been aerated in a long time, it could be too compacted for aerating to be effective. In these cases, it might take a bit more work or even a different technique to improve the soil structure. *Unsharpened Tines: If the tines on your aerator aren’t sharp, they won’t be able to penetrate the ground easily. This is an easy fix though—take a look at this helpful video to see how to sharpen them properly. https://www.lawnsmith.co.uk/lawn-care-videos/aerate-rake-scarify/spike-core-aerate/?srsltid=AfmBOorbRMh_lIb7-dF-Cg8gsNfPzmIhu0Db8GLARx6ldaepjVBgIonO Once you’ve checked off those things, you should have better luck with aerating! If the lawn’s not too stony or old (like 20 years or more), there’s no reason the aerator won’t do its job in the right conditions. I hope this helps and if you need further assistance, please email us at customersupport@lawnsmith.co.uk

A good afternoon workout - the aerator worked really well on our heavy claying soil. Once I got the hang of clearing the tubes with a bamboo I was able to get a good routine going.

Very sturdy , and making the holes required . Ground a little damp yet, so clearing of aerator required from time to time. But looks a good product.

Soil gets clogged on the first use absolutely useless, I’ve now ordered a Kent and Stowe version as these are supposed to be brilliant

Excellent quality but does not seem able to cope with the demands of my lawn. It is very difficult to get it into the ground and then the tines become clogged with earth clay that is hard to remove this is still the case after extensive watering.
