“I have owned several Pro 550 Plus models. Garmin replaced my first one four times trying to solve my problems. I run three dogs at a time in big chukar country. Not unusual for two of those dogs to range 800+ yards. The distances shown for all three dogs always seems to be right on. The problem is with the north orientation. At any time that north orientation will go awry and the direction arrow will be off by as much as 180 degrees. When this happens it may last for a few seconds or up to 40 minutes. Calibrating the compass has no effect. You just have to wait and hope. Because of that I started carrying a Garmin 430. Once in a while the 430 will also lose the north orientation. The good thing is that calibrating the compass on the 430 corrects it's north orientation. When you have a dog on point at 600 yards it takes more time than is convenient.”
