“I learned many tricks while painting this:
1- Use the lightest colors first, following then in order of their density. The darker colors cover lighter color overage but not visa versa.
2- With spots of overage, clean immediately with Q-Tips wet +/or dry if a critical detail; make sure the numbers on the adjacent patches remain visible. Hard to spot them from the color-number legend map.
3- Try to paint up exactly to the lines where one color is adjacent to another. Not so critical where an empty patch, yet to be painted, is the neighbor.
4- The lighter colors don't always totally cover the numbers. So, after completing a color, go over all the patches again and dab a 2nd coat just on the exposed numbers; not necessary to redo the entire patch.
5- I found myself using mostly the very small brush.
6- Additional helpful tools: magnifying glass and home-made mahlstick.
After I was done, I was very pleased with the quality of your materials; we plan on taking a custom family photo and having you create a custom PBN canvas for us...
I'm not very knowledgable about the history or lore of Van Gogh. While we liked his treatment of the actual flowers, we did not like how he represented the vase or the table-top; so, we modified them!! Many will find this irreverent or heretical but we like the resultant painting better this way. I tried to include a photo of the finished work in the space below but could not get it to accept our photo. I'll try e-mailing it to you separately...
