“This is a large play mat/bag and fits quite a lot of toys. I use it for all the toys with small pieces, Lego, Duplo, puzzles rtf. The only downside is the bag doesn't close very well. The drawstring closes to a certain point then won't close anymore even when the bag is not full. So you can't really Play and Go without possibly dropping toys on your way. And the drawstring is also ridiculously long about a foot long when closed as tightly as it will go. When closex to its full capacity the opening is about a foot in length.”

Based on your photograph, it appears that the issue you describe is mainly caused by the bag being very full, as well as the fact that it is brand new.
If you place fewer large items in the bag, pull the cords tightly and tie the cords together you will see that the resulting holes are much smaller. Over time, as the bag is closed and opened, it becomes easier and easier to recreate these small gaps.
You mention the length of the cords - the cord exactly equals the circumference of the bag. If it was shorter the bag would not open completely flat into a playmat.
