Wrath of Kings: House Shael Han - Starter Box (24) Reviews

It was a war no one wanted at the worst possible time. Ancient King Arikan's throne, empty these last five centuries, had remained beyond the Scion Kings' reach, yet always in their thoughts. Centuries passed. Three Scions died. And the two remaining heirs drew secret plans for decisive actions, a quick and limited conflict. But hidden hands tugged the tapestry, and unseen players altered the game. A war between brothers now engulfs five nations as rules great and small vie for the Empyrean Throne. In the end, only one shall ascend. Only one shall rule. One one shall survive the Wrath of Kings.Plastic components.Contents:12 Dragon Legion2 Dragon Legion Keeper6 Wrath2 Big Sister1 Hammer of Heaven1 Shield of TaelfonStat CardsMiniatures are supplied unpainted. These sculpts are rivaled only by GW. Easy assembly, and beautiful details. I absolutely love these!

If I hadn't got this set on sale, I would've been a bit disappointed (at full price I'd have given it 2.5 stars instead). The plastic is soft, making it very difficult to trim the mold lines. Moreover, the joints on the 'Wrath' minis are too large/small and require an amount of trimming and filing I would describe as, "plastic surgery," to correct so that they fit together. The inset bases don't trouble me, as I tend to sculpt bases for my miniatures anyway. However, if you're looking just to stick the minis to bases and be done with it, you'll have a bit of a sorry look to contend with. Some of the minis don't match the appearance on the box. Most notably, a few of the 'Wrath' minis hold swords instead of polearms. Fortunately, they also look really cool with swords and you end up with 6 unique sculpts instead of a trio of duplicates. I'd consider it an unexpected and positive note. On the positive side, however, the detail is relatively sharp and the sculpts are incredibly characterful. The material takes paint well and the minis look stellar on the table. You get a nice big army with the set as well, so if you need a new pile of shame to defeat, this is it. If you can catch this set on sale pick it up, but at full price it's not really worth it.

Love how simple the core game plays and how varied all the units are. The miniatures are quite beautiful as well.
