“You get a deck of 18 cards. You draw seven of them. You play 1 card based on what gear you are in (1,2,3,or 4). You can push your luck by adding non-playable "HEAT" cards to your deck, clogging up the deck. Pushing your luck includes playing cards that have a variable number of spaces to move your car, purposely going through a curve faster than the curve allows, and changing gears by more than one on the turn (to play more or less cards). Sounds easy, doesn't it. It pretty much is, but there are quite a few decisions to make each turn making it a very fun game. Once you play a couple of times, there are "modules" that you add to the game making it more challenging and more fun. Adding tiles that change the conditions of the track, adding special cards so everyone's car is just a little bit different. Adding powerful cards that you can only play one time during the race and earning those cards by playing a specific way during the race to impress sponsors. The game has six cars for six players and four racetracks. But, with the modules to add to the game after you learn to play the basic game no two races will be the same.”

“This game was very much worth the hype surrounding it. I was impressed with the quality of the components and just absurd amount of extra content to make the replayability of Heat. Each round feels a little different and there is no sense of someone getting too far ahead to catch. The heat mechanism really adds to the overall theme and the art is great. MM also was able to get it to me in less than 7 days, so that's a plus!!”

“Heat: Pedal to the Metal is a great strategy game requiring you to balance your car's performance and speed against overheating and making turns around the track corners. With different modules like weather effects and customizing your cars pre-race, no game is ever the same across the four different maps. It's also a great game to play solo against Legends racers that provide a good challenge to beat. I would highly recommend Heat: Pedal to the Metal to any fan of strategy board games.”

“The gameplay flow between turns is one of my favorites for a racing game. Once the group has learned the basics you can keep up the momentum and everyone can play quickly so it feels like you are racing each other. The detail in the pieces and board design is great fun and adds to the experience. We are excited to dive into the more complex Grand Prix parts of the game the next time we play.”
