“I purchased this on sale as a test run of the Arkham Horror LCG game as a whole and I was not at all disappointed. The gameplay has got some intriguing depth, the art is top notch, and even when I've lost I've been excited to continue playing through the short campaign.”

“Much like Lord of the Rings Living Card Game, the core set is a tester. While most modern board games give you a full experience with the base game alone and expansions add on to that, these core sets are designed to give you a basic concept of the game play before you dive into full campaigns. You can get a few plays out of just the core set alone, but you will definitely want a full campaign and an investigator expansion to give you an idea of what the game is really about. That said, the game is a lot of fun. It kind of feels like a Living Card Game with a "Choose Your Own Adventure" vibe. The story, and your investigators, will evolve in different ways every time you play. The core set is required to play, and while the Revised edition is the better option, this is an excellent value when it goes on sale.”

“Not really enough cards to facilitate 2 people, but a second set and the extra investigator starter decks establish an excellent baseline to begin the game and play through the scenarios (a mere 3) in this core set.”

“This set allows one to two players to jump into playing Arkham Horror. It doesn't have a massive amount of cards but for anyone interested in trying Arkham Horror you can't beat the price to try it and see if you like the game as a whole. Definitely a good gateway set.”
